Criminal Minds Original Run: 2005 – Present The show focuses on the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit who use profiling techniques to catch criminals. Currently on it’s 8th season, the show sparked the spin-off “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.”
Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior Original Run: 2011 This spin-off was based on the same plot set up as it’s parent show and was introduced via a backdoor pilot during season five of “Criminal Minds” in the episode “The Fight.” It was canceled after only 13 episodes, but is available on DVD.
Bones Original Run: 2005 – Present Loosely based off of the life and novels of real-life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs, this show follows Temperance Brennan, F.B.I. Special Agent Seeley Booth and the team of squints at the Jeffersonian Institute – a fictional Smithsonian Institute – in Washington D.C. It sparked the spin-off “The Finder.”
The Finder Original Run: 2012 This series was first introduced via backdoor pilot in “Bones” during season six in an episode titled “The Finder.” Like “Bones,” this series is loosely based off of a series of novels – “The Locator” by Richard Greener. The series was canceled after a short run of 13 episodes.
Primeval Original Run: 2007 – 2011 This science fiction drama focused on a team of British scientists who investigated anomalies – “earthquakes in time” – that let through dangerous prehistoric creatures. The series finished it’s run in 2011 after five seasons, but sparked a Canadian spin-off called “Primeval: New World”
Primeval: New World Original Run: 2012 – Present Set in the same timeline as it’s parent series, this show features a team of scientists researching anomalies in Canada. It will be airing in the U.S. on SyFy sometime in 2013.
Life On Mars Original Run: 2006-2007 A critical success in the UK, this drama about a London detective stuck in 1973 won two International Emmy Awards and was nominated for a BAFTA. This also sparked an American remake that only aired one season in 2008 which unfortunately didn’t fair as well as it’s British counterpart. It sparked the spin-off “Ashes to Ashes” ->
Ashes to Ashes Original Run: 2008 – 2010 This series sees policewoman Alex Drake wake up inexplicable in 1981 after being shot in 2008. It features many of the same characters of “Life on Mars” except for John Simm’s Detective Inspector Sam Tyler.
