  3. Classroom Rules: • Be in your seat, quiet and working when the bell rings at the beginning of class. (Be Prompt) • Come prepared. Bring needed materials to class every day. (Be Prepared) • Keep your hands, feet and other personal objects to yourself. (Be Polite) • Listen carefully, and promptly follow directions the first time they are given. (Be Productive) • Show respect to teachers, classmates, and property. (Be Proud)

  4. Consequences for breaking a rule: • Warning • Meeting with Ms. Vetrov • Detention- *parents will be called* • Office referral/ Saturday Academy • In-school suspension • Out-of-school suspension • Expulsion

  5. A Note on Cheating • I take plagiarism and cheating very seriously. • If you are caught copying someone else’s work without giving them credit, your parents will be notified, you will be serving an after-school detention and you will required to complete a more challenging assignment.

  6. Materials Needed Everyday: • Binder (with paper) • Assignment book • Pencil • Pen • Homework • SSR book Certain days: • Colored Pencils

  7. A Note about Textbooks You will not be assigned a textbook this year. Instead, you will be given access to the textbook online, and you will be able to check out a book from the class as needed.

  8. What will we be learning? • Our main focus is to study, examine and learn about ancient societies and how they have influenced our world today. • We will uncover: - Ancient Greece - Ancient Rome - Ancient Africa and Middle East - Ancient Asia - Middle Ages/Feudalism - European Renaissance, Reformation, and Exploration

  9. Grading Scale • A 90-100%- “A” • B 80-89.9%- “B” • C 70-79.9%- “C” • D 60-69.9%- “D” • F 59.9% and below (Failing)- “F” • Please note that if you are receiving a D or F on your interims or your report card, your parents will be notified

  10. Procedures • By the end of this week, you will have the all the steps and tools you need to be successful in Social Studies this year. • In order to help the process, we must learn some classroom procedures.

  11. What to do when you first enter the room: • Make sure you have all of your materials and find your seat quickly • Take out your starter sheet and begin your starter activity • Check the SmartBoard for further instructions Starter

  12. Turning in assignments • Each class period has a storage shelf in the front of the room. I will instruct you as to when you should turn in your homework or in-class assignment.

  13. Absent Students • While you are completing the starter activity, I will be taking attendance. • Extra copies can be found in the front of the room.

  14. If you were absent: Step 1: C3B4Me-Check with your neighbors to find out what you missed (notes, activities, tests, quizzes, etc.) Step 2:Missed Notes?-Borrow any missed notes from a neighbor. Step 3:Missed any assignments or handouts?- Check the extras box in the front of the room to pick up any worksheets or assignments that you may have missed!

  15. If you were absent: Step 4:Missed a test?- Check the front board to see if you need to make up any quizzes or tests. Step 5:Have something to turn in?-Place it in the correct tray in the front of the room! Step 6:Followed all the steps?-If you still have questions, please ask Ms. Vetrov, she’ll be happy to get you caught up!

  16. Class Dismissal • Please note that the bell does not signal the end of class. • You may leave the room after I have dismissed you.

  18. Lost, Missing, Stolen or Dog-Eaten Homework • If you lose an assignment, I will always have extra copies available on the front table. Please grab a new copy! • If your homework or project is late* you will receive partial credit. • If you don’t turn in your homework at all… you will receive 0 credit. *If you are absent, you have as many days to make it up as you were absent

  19. If you need to leave the room… • You will receive 2 “oops I forgot” passes for the quarter. This pass will allow you to go to the restroom, library or locker. • Please note that once you use up your 2 passes you will not be able to leave the room. • Go onto my online classroom to find out how you can earn an extra oops pass! (Due Monday!)

  21. LaMuth’s 5 P’s cont’d • This year p-points will be used in all classes! Instead of getting a p-point grade, unused P-points can be redeemed for prizes • If you receive a p-point, I will record your lost point. After 3 missed P-points, you will be assigned an after-school detention.

  22. If you need to sharpen a pencil: • Please do not sharpen your pencil while I am addressing the class. Please wait until I stop talking to sharpen your pencil. • There should only be 1 person at the pencil sharpener at a time.

Classroom Library • Students from all of my classes are permitted to check out books from my classroom library. • In order to check out a book, please sign the book out using the clipboard by the library. • When you are finished with the book, please place the book in the yellow book return box, and sign the clip board. • Missing or lost books will be the responsibility of the student. • Appropriate times to check out a book: In the beginning of the day, before class, at the end of class if there is time left over, NOT during instruction time • The beginning of advisory on DEAR day is NOT an appropriate time to check out a book!
