Located in Central Europe, it has about 10 million inhabitants (about 2 million in the capital) • Itsterritory is 93,030 km2 • The officiallanguage is Hungarianwhichissaid to be one of the most difficultlanguages in the world • Hungary is a parliamentaryrepublic • It is famousforitsthermalbathsand cuisine • The highestpoint is Mount Kékes withits 1014 m in the Northern part of the country • It has continentalclimatewith hot summers and coldwinters • Hungary joined the European Union in 2004

Part 2Buda Castle • It tookmanyyears to build it, but the constructionwasstarted in the 13th century • It is locatedon the Castle Hill whichdominates the city • The name Buda Castle covers more than a castle or the Royal Palace in the capital city; it extends to the historical quarter full of sites.

Part 3Gellért Hill • The Gellért Hill received its name after St. Gellert who came to Hungary as a missionary bishop upon the invitation of King St. Stephen I. around 1000 A.D. • Ifyouclimbupthishill, youwillhave a wonderfulview to the city • This is oppositewithouruniversity, on the Buda side

Part 4LibertyStatueon Gellért Hill • On the top of the hillyoucanseethisstatuewhichwas first erected in 1947 in remembrance of the Soviet liberation of Hungary from Nazi forces during World War II. • The 14 meter tall bronze statue stands atop a 26 meter pedestal and holds a palm leaf. • On the statueyoucanread: "To the memory of all of those who sacrificed their lives for the independence, freedom, and success of Hungary."

The city of Pécs, Southwest Hungary • Due to the factthat it is veryclose to the Croatianborder, it is called the „mediterranean city” of Hungary • It wasfounded by the Romans in the beginning of the 2nd century • However, onthispicturewecansee a Turkishmosquesince the areawasoccupied by the Turkish in the 16th century • Pécs is currently the 5th largest city of our country, with about 157000 inhabitants

Szeged,Southeast Hungary • The 3rd largestHungarian city, about 170000 inhabitants • Szeged is one of the centres of the food industry in Hungary, especiallyknownforourspecialspice, the paprika powder and ourdelicioussalami • The University of Szeged  is one of the most distinguished universities in Hungary

Lake Balaton,the most popularsummerdestination in Hungary • It is the largestlake in Central Europe • Oftencalled the „HungarianSea” • The mountainous region of the northern shore is known both for its historic character and as a major wine region, while the flat southern shore is known for its resorttowns(and summerparties!) • It alsohosts a bigfestivalat the beginning of July

Lake Hévíz • Aswealreadymentioned, Hungary is famousforitsthermalbaths – and youwon’t only findthem in Budapest! • Hévíz is near the western end of Lake Balaton • It is the second largest thermallake in the world • The flow of water is very strong and the lake is believed to be completely replenished each day • It hascurative effects, solots of peoplevisit Hévíz
