A • About Me- Born & raised in Pittsburg, PA Saint Francis University, Loretto, PA - B.A. Psychology Kennesaw State University- Post Baccalaureate –Early Childhood Education Mountain View Elementary School- Teacher- 16 years • Agenda- Second grade will NOT be using agendas this year. A monthly homework chart will be placed in the silver take home folder. It will also be posted on my blog. • Attendance– be sure to send a note if your child is absent or tardy! Being at school on time is very important!

  3. B • Birthdays- Please feel free to send in a special birthday treat for your child to share or join us for lunch that day. If you send invitations in to class, please include all students. (Lunch time is 12:15-12:45) • Blog- My blog is updated at least once a month. You can get to it via the Mountain View home pageand there is a link to sign-up for emails. http://mountainview.typepad.com/gilormo

  4. C • Common Core Curriculum- If you have any questions about the second grade curriculum, Picasso is a great resource. This portal is located on the Cobb County School District homepage. www.cobbk12.org • Conferences-Elementary school conferences will be heldonce a year from October 21st-25th for all students. If you have concerns and want to come in sooner, please send me an e-mail and I will be happy to schedule a conference with you.

  5. D • Discipline- A behavior chart will be placed in the red folder and should remain there for 9 weeks. Please sign every Friday. I believe in “positive discipline” and praising students for good behavior. Children can earn treats and prizes for outstanding behavior. • Dismissal- Please send IN WRITING any changes to dismissal in your child’s silver communication folder. • Please look on the county website or the Mountain View website for the new bus pass that should be used when a child goes home on a different bus. • Drop off time- 7:20-7:50- NO EARLIER!

  6. E • Early Release Days – October 21-25 -Dismissed at 12:30 for Conference Week. • E-mail- My Cobb county e-mail address is as follows: lynn.gilormo@cobbk12.org • Envelopes – Please be sure that all money and checks are placed in an envelope with your child’s name and payment information.

  7. F • Field Trips- The second grade team will plan field trips throughout the year. Please look for the permission slip in your child’s folder and send any money back in the attached envelope. • Cobb County Fire Safety Village • The Nutcracker Ballet • Play • Star Lab- in school planetarium • Folders- A silver communication folder will be sent home daily. Please look for important papers and return to school the next day. • Fridays – Wear your Mountain View Spirit Wear!

  8. G • Guests – All doors are locked. Please use buzz in system and register in the front office when you arrive to visit the school for any reason. Don’t forget your visitor’s sticker!

  9. H • Healthy Snack – Please send one daily! Cakes and candy are not appropriate snacks! Lunch is very late in 2nd grade and we get cranky! • Holiday Parties-There are 2 celebrations throughout the year. One will be the week we dismiss for Winter Break and the other is the last week of school. Please be mindful of the many peanut allergies in our grade level! • Homework – The second grade team has decided to go GREEN this year! We are developing an online homework system that will begin September 3rd.

  10. I • Ice Cream- Please send any ice cream money in an envelope or container with your child’s name on it. Loose coins are vulnerable to getting misplaced. You may also use your lunch account to buy ice cream. • Identify all belongings by labeling with your child’s name, especially COATS, lunchboxes, backpacks, and personal books!

  11. J • Journals– Students will be creating a math and writing journal.

  12. K • Kindness – Our classroom is a safe and kind place where everyone is respected and cherished!

  13. L • Letters Home- Every Friday a notebook will come home with a letter your child has written to you. Please respond and send it back by the following Friday. • Lunch - Our lunch time is 12:15-12:45. Please feel free to join us for lunch anytime. Meet us by the cafeteria. • Lunch Money- Please send lunch money in your child’s folder in a sealed envelope with their name and teacher. Regular lunch: $2.15 Milk: $0.60 * We encourage you to use Meal Pay accessed through the county website!

  14. M • Media Center- Two books may be checked out at a time in second grade. Our class will take weekly scheduled trips to the library, however if your child needs to get a new book they can do so at any time before announcements or other designated times throughout the school day. • Medicines– If your child needs medication, paperwork must be filled out through the clinic and the medication must remain there. Students may not have medication in their backpacks. I cannot administer any medication unless instructed to do so by the school nurse.

  15. P • Performing Arts- This year 2nd grade students will participate in several in school performing arts programs. It is extremely important that we have the permission slip returned that you received in your Sneak-a-Peek folder in order for your child to participate in these events. Donations are optional. • Playground- Donations for playground equipment such as kick balls are very much appreciated. • PTA -Please join!

  16. Q • Questions? - Please ALWAYS feel free to ask! The best way to reach me is through email, but I am also available to talk over the phone, through a note in your child’s folder, or in person if you would like to set up an appointment.

  17. R • Reading Logs- A reading log will begin soon. This is a requirement as a part of our nightly homework. Students are required to read for 20 minutes each night. • Report cards- Second grade has a standards based report card similar to the first grade reporting system. It will be sent home every nine weeks. • Room Moms- Our class room moms will be sending e-mails throughout the year with important informationand opportunities to participate in different events. • Thank you Kimberly Brock and Heather Dahlby for volunteering for this position! I look forward to working with you!

  18. S • SmartBoard – We will be taking advantage of the many possibilities awaiting us this year on our interactive SmartBoard! • Specials Schedule - 11:15-11:55 • Monday – Music • Tuesday – Computer Lab • Wednesday –P.E. • Thursday – Art • Friday – P.E.

S • Class Schedule 7:20 – 8:00: Morning Work 8:00 – 8:15: Announcements 8:15 – 9:30: Math 9:30 – 11:15: Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Spelling, English) 11:15 – 11:55: Specials 12:00 – 12:10: D.E.A.R. time 12:15 – 12:45: Lunch 12:40 – 1:40: Science, Social Studies, or Health 1:40 – 2:00: Recess 2:05 – 2:15: Class Meeting, Clean-up, Pack-up 2:20: Dismissal

  20. T • Tests-Second graders take pre/post benchmark or skills tests in math and language arts throughout the year. All graded assignments will be sent home every Friday in the red folder. • T-Shirts- Students are encouraged to wear Mountain View t-shirts on Fridays, field trips, and special events such as Field Day.

  21. U,V,W • Volunteers– You are always welcome. THANK YOU! Please see lists on whiteboard. • Water-Students may bring water bottles. • Wish List– A wish list is posted in the front of the classroom. Please pick an apple. All donations are greatly appreciated!

  22. X, Y,Z • YOU! are very important to your child’s success in second grade! Please continue to support them in any way you can! Together we can make this year a very successful and enriching year!
