  2. Our Goal The purpose of the TILT project is to improve reading and writing skills by integrating technology into the fifth grade classrooms.

  3. Our Needs • Low test scores • Deficient student skills • Unable to meet standards • Behavior problems

  4. Our Plan We plan to provide each fifth grade student with a laptop equipped with Internet access, Microsoft Word and Kidspiration 2. This will peak student interest and provide a visual way for students to think, read, write and comprehend.

  5. Sample Lesson Objective: Students will write pieces of work utilizing the stages of writing. (1.4.5 A)

Sample Lesson • Given a topic, students will brainstorm pictures and words in Kidspiration 2. • Students will pre-write using a graphic organizer in Picture View in Kidspiration 2. • Students will expand on their ideas by clicking on Writing View and typing sentences to match the pictures. • To revise their work, students will listen to what they have written to see if it makes sense by choosing the Listen Tool in Kidspiration 2. • Students will transfer work to Microsoft Word to edit for spelling and grammar. • Students will publish written work by printing out final copy.

Quality Of Key Personnel • Project Manager: Dr. Joseph Bell, Director of Technical Support, School District of Philadelphia • Project Director: Donna Woods, Technology Specialist, MS in Science • Fifth Grade Teachers: Nicole Clarke, BS in Education; Alyssa Austin, BA in Human Resources; Angelique Darcy-McGuire, MS in Educational Administration and received Teacher of the Year in 1997.

  9. Management Plan The Project Manager will oversee project funds, supervise staff and provide additional technical support.

  13. Budget Summary • Hardware: $31,1196.70 • Software: $ 1,045.50 • Staffing, Training, &Tech Support: $3372 • Supplies: $ 1,809.04 • Total Cost: $37,423.24

  14. Our Commitment Our sixth grade has successfully implemented a program similar to our proposal. The Frankford Bridges Magnet Program enables each student to have a wireless laptop equipped with Internet access and Microsoft Office. This program has increased attendance and improved overall academic performance.
