  3. About Me • I am a product of GCPS, NGHS graduate of 2001 • Attended Young Harris College before graduating from UGA • Completed my Masters Degree at Walden University • Husband and I live in Dekalb county with our son Cole and Boxer dog, Tucker • This is my 9th year teaching at Hull

  4. Student Expectations • Utilize agenda every day • Bring binder to class every day • Be organized • Work must be of high quality • Effort is key to being successful in class • Review work done in class nightly! • When absent, always check my website http://gcps-cassie_schuetz.onmycalendar.com/

  5. Language Arts Curriculum • Grammar: • Mini-lessons throughout quarter • Writing: • formal assessments every quarter • Workshop Model • Literature: • novel studies • short stories and nonfiction in class

Grading • Summative Assessments 48% • Tests/Projects • Classroom Assessments 40% • Classwork/Homework/Quizzes • Final Exam 10% • Interim Assessment 2% • I will email grades home every 2 weeks or so; please check Parent Portal for more up to date information. • Progress Reports will be sent home at 4 ½ weeks and 13 weeks • Proposed Promotion Criteria: Students must pass 4 out of 5 classes (LA and MA are required) – due to new testing: Georgia Milestones

  7. Beyond Language Arts…What I Want Your Students to Learn • Self-esteem • Intrinsic motivation • Ownership • Pride • Time Management • I will do anything I can to help your children be successful.

How Can You Help? • Encourage your children to read every day- find an author they like and capitalize on that. • Have them study a little every day- even if they say they have no homework • Check Parent Portal and talk to your students about their grades. What is going well? Why? What is not going well? Why not? • Ask your children about their learning targets for the day. How did we go about accomplishing the target?
