  3. History Koszalin also called Koszalice, Koeslin, Cussalitz, Coeslin, Cosalitz, Scurgum, was a site of pagan worship in Prehistory. It was established as a city in the XIIth century. First it was only a small placebut with time its importance grewand it became one of the richest cities of Middle Pomerania. Its success was connected with the proximity to the Baltic Sea and Jamno lake, and numerous merchant routes crossing in Koszalin. Now it is a popular resort visited by tourists who spend their time at the seaside.

  4. A green city Koszalin has over 105,000 inhabitants and covers 83 square kilometres of a picturesque land with four parks, River Dzierżęcinka flowing through the city centre and also with the old Chełmska Hill rising up to 137 metres above sea level. Koszalin is often called the green city owing to its unique character - it is a real oasis of nature, where almost 40 % of the total city area is occupied by green areas, parks and forests.

Events The following events are held, among other thingsin Koszalin: • International Days of Percussion Music (March); • International Koszalin Days (May); • “Young People and Cinema” Festival,(June);www.mlodziifilm.pl • International Festival of Organ Music, • World Festival of Polonian Choirs with gala concerts held in the amphitheatre (July); • Water Gala (July); • Cabaret Summer Festival, (August);  • Hanza Jazz Festival (October-November). During bright summertime days the Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra gives open-air concerts in the park near the amphitheatre.
