  1. Specific learning disabilities

  2. What is LD An impairment in one or more of the psychological processes that are involved in understanding and using language. This could involve dyslexia or speech disorders. 52% of special education students have LD

  3. Causes? • there is no conclusive evidence that points towards any cause. • Some theories include brain damage or prenatal exposure to harmful substances. • Some evidence shows that learning dissabilities can be inherited. • Most theories suggest that the causes happen before birth.

  4. Common struggles • Oral expression • Listening and comprehending • Written expression • Basic reading skills • Reading comprehension • Mathematics reasoning • Mathematics calculation

  5. Are Between Consists Continuously Corresponding Curve Draws Variation Graph If Isolated known Making Only Often With One Points Relation Set Table Values Variables

  6. If the known relation between the variables consists of a table of corresponding variables, the graph consists only of the corresponding set of isolated points. If the variables are known to vary continuously, one often draws a curve to show the variation. Basic College Math. M. Michael Michaelson, 1945

  7. Last Serney, Flingledope and Pribin were in the Nerd-link treppering gloopy caples and cleaming burly greps. Suddenly a ditty strezzle boofed into Flingledopes tresk. Pribin glaped and glaped. “Oh, Flingledope.” he chifed. “that ditty strezzleis tuning in your grep!”

  8. Reading comprehension is very complicated and children do not pick it up on their own, especially children with LD. They need direct instruction.

  9. Typical PE difficulties • Difficulty repeating instructions • Poor body awareness • Poor perceptual skills such as depth perception • Distractibility • Poor social skills

  10. Direct instruction is the key! These students do not learn “conventionally”. They need the time and assistance of direct instruction.
