  2. Claim • A claim is the point that you will be arguing. • Example: Hybrid cars are a working strategy to fight pollution.

  3. Evidence • The evidence supports the claim. • Driving a personal car is a person’s most air polluting activity.

  4. Warrant • The warrant explains how the evidence supports the claim. • Since cars are the largest source of personal air pollution switching to hybrid cars should have an impact on fighting pollution. • You could also say: • As a rule switching to hybrid cars would have an impact on fighting pollution becausecars are the largest source of personal air pollution.

  5. Backing • Backing supports the warrant. • If 20% of the car owning population trades cars, for a hybrid car, the average pollution rate would decrease by 15%. My family traded in their old cars for hybrids and have noticed they save more money because the hybrid cars don’t use as much gasoline. They also noticed a decreased amount of exhaust exiting the vehicles.
