  2. Standard: MCC1.MD.4 Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category than in another.

  3. I Can…. I can use tally marks to represent a set.

  4. Tally marks are EASY! • You are just making marks on a paper BUT the 5th mark is drawn ACROSS the previous 4 marks. Like this:

  5. Then What? • After making the fifth mark across, you start making single tally marks again.

  6. Let’s see an example:

  7. Your Turn: Tally marks help organize data when taking surveys. We are going to take a survey and fill in the chart using a tally mark for each person!

  9. Practice Makes Perfect • Get out a sheet of paper • We are going to make tallies for each set of pictures to the right.
