Devdutt Padikkal tests negative for COVID-19, joined RCB camp Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) talented opener Devdutt Padikkal has tested negative for COVID-19 and he has joined the RCB’s training camp as well, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise confirmed the news in a statement on Wednesday. “I would like to thank everyone for their wishes and prayers. I had tested positive two weeks back for Covid-19. As per BCCI and IPL protocols, I had to quarantine at home for two weeks. I have now joined the camp after two negative tests and I am feeling completely fine now and I just can’t wait to get back out there and join the RCB camp,” Padikkal said in a video posted by RCB. “Devdutt Padikkal joins the RCB camp after testing negative for Covid-19. He’s healthy, feeling better and raring to go. Here’s a message to all RCB fans from Devdutt,” the team shared. While it is understood that Padikkal could miss RCB’s first match of the season against Mumbai Indians on Friday, April 9 the left-handed batsman could end up playing the next match after the latest development as well.
Devdutt Padikkal was one of the positives for RCB last season and performed stunningly. He smashed 473 runs in 15 matches in the 2020 edition that played in the UAE, averaging 31.53 and scoring five half- centuries too. He ended the season as the highest run-getter of the franchise as well. He was in prolific form in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he smashed 737 runs which came at 147.4 (in seven matches) and was just behind Prithvi Shaw (827 runs in eight matches) in the list of highest run-getters in the tournament. Seeing his stunning form, it can be guessed that he will do well this season too. Since the captain Virat Kohli said that he will open for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021, with his inclusion in the opening alongside Devdutt Padikkal, the league can see some firework from them as well.
