  1. Twitter Used for the Box Office

  2. Highlight of the Article • Two Computing Scientist have been using Twitter to predict box office results of a particular movie. • Using Twitter posts to search for a particular movie. • Have been 97.3 % accurate with using the program to search for a movie.

  3. Examples of Box Office Results • Predicted that “Dear John” would bring in $30.71 million and turned out that it brought in $30.46 million • Predicted that “The Crazies” would bring in $16.8 million and turned out that it brought in $16.07.

  4. The Negative Part of Testing • Its hard to predict children movies because obviously three year olds do not twitter, only parents. • Also hard to predict the Senior Citizens because gramps does not know how to work a computer, let alone a blackberry.

  5. Positives of Testing • Allows movie makers to get insight on how well there movie will do. • Movie makers can do more advertising for the movie if they don’t like the results that the program is outputting.

  6. Moving Forward with Testing • Now the developers are using other social networks such as Myspace and Facebook to see if the results will change or get better.

  7. Quick Question ? • Now is this ethical going into private profiles that won’t allow access to, to just get data for movie results? • This could lead to further investigations when police are looking for college students who are partying?

  8. Quick Question ? Continued • These are just examples of privacy issues that should or should not be recongized when talking about computer security of social networks.

  9. THE END BY JOSH MABRY
