  5. Reminders

  6. Reminders – Classic DSF • Internet Explorer 8 Resolution • Cimbrian is testing now and will give update to us in the next couple of weeks. We’ll also test before deploying to our production environment. • Update to HTML Editor will require downloading Active X control. Users without administrative permission on their PC will need to involve their desktop support. We will provide detailed instructions prior to the update • Remember to fill out a Portal Request Form for non-critical Issues, Training, or Work Requests • Critical requests should be called into the Help Desk directly at 860-622-2300

  7. Reminders – WebTrends • WebTrends is still running • All Requested Profiles have been completed • All other profiles are being analyzed from 7/1/10 forward • If you are interested in gaining access to view these profiles, submit a Work Request • Google Analytics is still waiting on the Privacy Policy change

  8. Privacy Policy • We have drafted two versions of the Privacy Policy. One uses DOIT’s Policy template and the other does not • We are waiting for a decision on which one to use • Once the CIO Approves the Policy, it must be approved by the Governor’s Office • We are considering a different implementation method for the new policy so it will look like it resides on your site, not just a link to CT.gov

  9. WebTrends – Useful Reports • Top Pages • Top Entry Pages • Top Exit Pages • Activity By Referring Page • Top Search Phrases • Browsers By Version • Platforms

  10. Google Analytics Preparation “Before you provide the data, ask the requestor what is the business question they are trying to answer. Then fulfill that need.”

  11. Google Analytics Preparation – JavaScript • JavaScript Code must be added to each page tracked • Portal sites will have the code inserted into the footer • Non-Portal sites will have to do this manually (or by FrontPage Include) • If the code is not on a page, it will not be tracked

  12. Google Analytics Preparation – Other Links • Google Analytics does not automatically track downloads • Google Analytics does not automatically track external links • Both of these issues can be corrected by adding JavaScript manually to each link • Each link (NOT file) must be tagged • Please begin identifying files or external links that need to be tagged for tracking

  13. Google Analytics – Preparation • Google has a number of features not currently available • In preparation for Google Analytics, we are going to present a couple of these features today • We will show others in the future

  14. Google Analytics Features – Goals & Funnels • Goals • A goal is a website page that you expect visitors to reach. Some examples of good goals are: • A 'thank you' page after a user has submitted information through a form. • A particular news article • Funnels • A funnel represents the path that you expect visitors to take on their way to a Goal. Defining these pages allows you to see how frequently visitors abandon goals, and where they go

  15. Reminders – Available Widgets • Widgets are available for State Agency use • Widgets can be found on CPI • http://www.ct.gov/cpi/ctwidgets • Use with provided instructions • If you need our assistance, please fill out a Work Request

  16. Reminders – Special Project Websites • If Agencies plan to create “One-Off” marketing sites • Sites must meet ALL State of Connecticut Standards and Guidelines • DOIT’s Web Development, Design, and Hosting Contract must be used for any external development http://www.ct.gov/doit/lib/doit/purchase/awards/ca08itz0057.pdf • We highly recommend you consult with the Portal Management Group to discuss options

  17. Updates

  18. Updates – USA Search • New Features • Related Topics • Displays suggestions based on search term • Type-Ahead Search • Provides suggested search terms as they type their query • New Feature – Requires work request • Boosted Sites • Enable customers to place own listing above search results

  19. Updates – CT.gov Weather Service • Cancelled weather service with Intellicast.com • Now linking to the National Weather Service • Intellicast feed must be removed from sites • All interested agencies can use the Weather graphic

  20. Updates - SurveyMonkey • We have purchased SurveyMonkey • If you would like to create a Survey using SurveyMonkey: • Fill out a Work Request • Schedule time to come to DOIT • PMG will provide basic training to create your survey • PMG will provide a workspace for you at DOIT to create the survey

  21. Updates – V3 Templates • 49 sites are now on the V3 template • 18 Sites are in progress • We’d like to move all agencies to the new template. If you have not signed up already, please fill out V3 Conversion Form at http://www.ct.gov/cpi/V3Template

  22. Updates – Social Media Policy • Policy has been developed and is with the Governor’s Office for approval • A small workgroup has been meeting to develop the guidelines to go along with the policy • We will be sending out a request to register any social media sites you have now. We will be creating a list of legitimate State sites and posting it on CT.gov

  23. Updates – DSF.Net • The Classic DSF replacement project, DSF.Net, has been cancelled • Factors that led to the cancellation • Due to defects and architectural problems, new estimates put the initial launch in mid to late 2011 • Implementation delay would deliver system over 2 years behind schedule and requirements would be over 3 years old • Mobile/smart phone market has changed significantly during that time

  24. Updates – DSF.Net Factors that led to the cancellation (continued) Migration process will take over a year to complete CT Developers would be responsible for all support and keeping up with industry changes Industry changes integrating Web Content Management and Portal Frameworks is something CT could benefit from System would not further eGovernment initiatives

  25. Updates – DSF.Net What happens now? Requirements need to be updated We are working with DOIT Architecture on new strategy We will continue to monitor Classic DSF to ensure its stability We will not migrate or add any large or high traffic sites to the installation (subject to evaluation) Our main focus will be on the long term viability of a new system and eGovernment implementation Will look into 3rd party tools if needed link checker software (broken links and orphan files) RSS Feeds

  26. E-Government Assessment • Legislative Program Review & Investigations Committee • The Committee voted in June 2010 to conduct a study to assess Connecticut’s implementation of e-Government. • “Section IV (p45): Begins to examine Connecticut state websites” • The Briefing Report along with some additional information is available at http://www.cga.ct.gov/pri/2010_ACIEG.asp

  27. Next Portal User Group Meeting • December 9, 2010; 9:00 AM • Register on CPI • We are accepting suggestions for Topics for future Meetings • If you know anyone who would like to speak on website-related topics, please let us know
