44th Primary School in Łódź, Poland • Why were we invited to the European Network of Health Promoting Schools in 1992? • We had already been engaged in health promoting project since 1991 which was part of the initial pilot phase of the ENHPS implemented in four countries – Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. • We were flexible and used to incorporate new ideas to our work • Our physical environment was quite good and promising at that time • The management of the school wasn't afraid of new challenges

44th Primary School in Łódź, Poland In 2002 the school chose its patron – Professor Jan Moll, a famous open-heart surgeon, the pioneer of Polish cardiac transplantology

44th Primary School in Łódź, Poland Three years later we were ready to start evaluation in order to apply for the Certificate of Polish Network of Health Promoting Schools Five national principles for health-promoting schools or standards, as they are called in Poland were introduced for evaluating the process of health promotion. Standards 1 and 2 concern conditions; and standards 3, 4 and 5 concern the main directions.
