  1. Nutritional Supplements and Mortality In an ideal world, the life of any human being should be as long as is possible when one considers the fact that we would all like to stay healthy until the day we inevitably need to depart this world. Modern medicine and advances in health and wellness supplements, remedies, and preventative measures mean that the lifespan of the average human has already been notably extended. The majority of men live to be about 70 years old, whereas women tend to live longer with an average expected lifespan of 75. This means that the average human lifespan is 72, although we know that many people reach ages of the high nineties and even some that exceed the 100-year mark. The length of our lives, as well as its quality, is impacted by several factors including some things that we can control such as our medical care, health-related habits, and recreational choices, and some things that we cannot control such as our genetic makeup, place of birth, and economic status. Our genetics is one such factor that we have no control over, and unfortunately, this can negatively impact your life expectancy. Some certain chronic illnesses and diseases shorten your expected lifespan and tend to run in families. These include diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and certain cancers. Genetic impact on our lifespan is why physicians and insurance companies will always enquire regarding your parents’ and grandparents’ health and wellness to determine whether or not you are at what may be termed an elevated risk for such diseases. There are other things that we can control that can help lengthen our lives. The age-old reprimand of quitting smoking still holds true in this regard as smokers tend to have a much shorter expected lifespan than non- smokers do. Another positive choice you can make regarding your general health and wellness and, therefore, your life expectancy, is to take some form of nutritional supplement. In recent studies, it was found that in more than 30% of respondents who took an antioxidant supplement consisting of basic vitamins and selenium, the intervention by the antioxidant had a positive effect on mortality, therefore, increasing the lifespan of the respondents involved and reducing their likeliness for disease. Additionally, due to the processed nature of our foods, more than 90% of people generally fail to take in the recommended amounts of Vitamin E and D and many have shortfalls where it comes to other nutrients as well. That is why it is highly recommended for people to take a nutritional supplement, and particularly for

  2. those over 50 to at least get a supplement to provide them B-12, which is one of the nutrients that we as humans struggle to absorb from our food later in life. The truth of the matter is that those people that eat a balanced diet, get enough exercise, and generally live a healthy life, will live longer than those who do not. Our choices can greatly impact our expected lifespan, but our genetic makeup, economic status, and place of birth may hinder our life journey to some extent. That is why it is a widely-held belief that we can only improve our health and extend our lifespan with the adequate intake of essential nutrients in the form of nutritional supplements. The health benefits that stem from regularly taking a nutritional supplement include improved bodily functions, more energy, and better endurance, an increase in cognitive function, and resistance to certain diseases. There is even evidence that indicates that a well-constructed and personalized nutritional supplement may reduce the likelihood of some of the more serious chronic diseases and illnesses, including cancer and heart disease.
