  7. 5 Traditions of Planning • i) ‘Boosterism’; • ii) An economic, industry-oriented approach; • iii) A physical/spatial approach; • iv) A community-oriented approach; and • v) A sustainable tourism approach.

  8. Responsibilities • No single agreed approach • Organizations have different traditions and responsibilities • Rare to have a single agency with destination responsibility

  9. Sustainable Destinations and Regions • Tourism as the most appropriate use for destinations • Whole of destination approach • Low road or high road policies
