  9. Clients • The SBDC serves small businesses, pre-venture clients, and entrepreneurs. These small businesses comprise more than 99% of the business firms in the state. Over 3.7 million of the state’s workforce of 5.7 million are employed by small businesses, and this segment of the economy represents the greatest opportunity for job and other economic growth. Over 98% of the nearly 653,000 businesses in Illinois employ less than 100 workers and 85% of the small firms in Illinois employ less than 20 people www.ilsbdc.biz

Type of Clients • Pre-Venture or Nascent: Individuals interested in starting a business seek information, counseling, and training assistance necessary to start a business. • Start-up: Clients seek assistance and skills to overcome the obstacles faced during the establishment and operation of their business. • Established: Clients are beyond their first year of operation. These are small businesses that need assistance with specific issues or problems Rapid-growth potential: These firms have the potential for rapid growth or may already be growing at a rapid rate.
