Guidance for January, 2010 Healthcare-Associated Infection Report • Report would be based hospital self-reported data external to NHSN: no external validation and lacks comparability • Prior to April 2010: • Institutions were not provided with adequate standardization for data collection; issues: case finding methodology and determination of denominator differ • No stratification or risk adjustment for measures, e.g. case-mix, type of hospitals • Current state law: requires adjusted rates

Guidance for January, 2010 Healthcare-Associated Infection Report • Difficulty with repeating collection of hospital-wide data of CLA-BSI since hospitals were given the option of reporting a variety of data • Aggregate data would also be invalid • Recommend: June 2011 reporting of hospital-level to enable standardized NHSN data collection and risk stratificiation
