  10. Sierra Club • Dedicated to preservation of nature • Created by John Muir • Fought many times to protect Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada

  11. In That Time • 1890- Yosemite National Park authorized by Congress • Boone and Crockett Club • 1891- Forest Reserve Act- withdrew from development more than 200 million acres of forestland • 1892- formation of Sierra Club • 1897- Forest Management Act- authorizes commercial use of forests

  13. The New Environment Wing (Why It Should Be There) • Creation of political parties dedicated to the conservation and preservation movements • Creation of famous national parks • New government laws in place regarding the environment (first time)
