  8. JUNIORS ONLY You MUST turn in the permission slip for the candidates forum field trip to Mr. Sinski! Attendance is required. It is mandatory for students taking Gov next semester! It is a grade for next semester! Get a permission slip from Sinski if you do not have one already.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAM Where: room 114 When: Tuesday, October 7 Why: Team formation-UPPERCLASSMEN WHO HAVE TAKEN AP CHEM, HONORS SCIENCE COURSES, LOVE TO SCHEME,BUILD AND COMPETE SHOULD PLAN TO ATTEND. 35+ HIGH SCHOOLS WILL COMPETE IN THIS PRESTIGIOUS, HANDS-ON COMPETITION. TOPICS FOR COMPETITION INCLUDE BUIDGE-BUILDING/TESTING, AERONAUTICS, CHEMISTRY, FORENSICS, AND LOTS MORE ONLY 14 SLOTS!!!! BE THERE. . .

  10. ATTENTION ALL AP CHEMISTRY CANDIDATES AND TEST RE-TAKERS • A review session will be held each Friday afternoon beginning this Friday, Oct. 3rd, 3:40-4:45, RM 114. The definitive schedule for the remainder of this semester will be given out at this first review. • Students who intend to continue on into AP Chemistry this Spring or who are planning to re-take the exam in May are strongly encouraged to attend these sessions.

  11. ATTENTION-STEM RAP TEAM MEMBERS AND ALTERNATES • THERE WILL BE AN INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON MONDAY, OCT. 6 AT LUNCH IN ROOM 114. ALL MEMBERS AND ALTERNATES MUST ATTEND.

  12. Tardy Policy • 3 to 4 transitional tardies in a one month period will result in a after school Tuesday detention at the end of the month. • 5 or more transitional tardies will result in a Saturday detention.

  13. Hispanic Heritage Celebration Oct 10 at the Community Center. 6PM—Bring a Hispanic Dish for an hour of service. This was a GREAT event last year. Let’s make it just as great this year!! Bring your family, friends, dancing feet and definitely an appetite. See Ms. Fuksman for more info.

  14. 300 Club • Here’s your chance to be part of the CPATC community service club! The 300 Club! • Remember, students are required to do at least 75 community service hours in high school. So get involved now! • Go Spartans!

  16. ATTENTION BUS RIDERS!!! All bus riders must ride at least ONE DAY between October 3rd-17th • We MUST show full ridership in order for the state to help us pay for the buses. The buses cost us $200,000 a year!!!!!

College and Career Fair • Date: Wednesday, October 22, 2014 • Time: 5:00pm-9:00pm • Location: Palm Beach County Convention Center • 650 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33401 • Cost: $10.00 (For transportation) • Permission Slips will be available on October 6th • This event is available only for Juniors.

  18. Step Team Step Team will be held Wednesdays after school. It’s a mixture of boys and girls. If you need more information ask Robyn.

  19. DONATIONS OF HATS! • Donate a hat today and put a smile on a cancer patients face. These hats go to kids who have lost their hair because of cancer treatments such as chemotherapy. • The hats may be any type (new or clean used, ball-caps, snapback, goofy, etc.) • Donations are accepted until Tuesday October 8th. Bring the hats to the front office.

Student Handbook, pages 13-14You signed a contract stating you would adhere to it. • Cheating - student use, or attempted use, of unauthorized materials in any academic situation or solicitation of someone else to do work for which he is responsible. Examples of cheating or violation of testing protocol include but are not limited to: • Using open notebooks, texts, or other course materials without permission • Exchanging answers with another student on any graded assignment • Copying another's test answers with or without his permission • Possessing "cheat notes" • Demonstrating an intent to cheat • Providing answers for any assignment

  27. --Continued • Copying - examples include: • Copying homework or papers from another person or allowing someone to copyhomework or papers • Acquiring answers from the internet or other electronic sources and purporting them as one’s own • Using teacher edition texts or teacher answer keys or test copies • Deception/Misrepresentation - lying about student work or academic records. Examples include: • Forging a teacher's or parent’s signature on any document • Taking credit for group work without having contributed as required • Electronic Dishonesty - using network access inappropriately. Examples include: • Using another's computer account • Invading another's files • Using material from another's stored files (e.g. network storage, flash drive) • Damaging or deleting another’s computer files

  28. Continued • Plagiarism - Plagiarism is the use, intentional or not, of the writing or ideas of others and representing them as one's own. Text manipulation is plagiarism. Paraphrasing the ideas of someone else is plagiarism. Credit must be given to all outside sources, including, but not limited to: research materials, online databases, internet sources, encyclopedias, charts, graphs, pictures, quotations and paraphrasing and summaries of another's written or spoken words. Plagiarism, regardless of intent or degree or amount, is theft and violates academic integrity. Students uncertain about what material to cite should consult teachers for guidance and advice. • Fabrication - inventing or falsifying information. Examples include: • Inventing lab data • Citing sources not used

Continued • Penalties for Violations - Because academic honesty serves as a measure of personal integrity and provides a foundation for the academic strength of Somerset College Preparatory Academy, any violation of it is considered a serious offense. Such offenses are cumulative. A student remains responsible for all violations of academic honesty committed at any time during his SCPA career. • First time violators: • 0% on the work in question without make up • Automatic 3 day suspension • Automatic academic probation • Parent Notification

Announcements • Spraying perfume, body spray or sanitizer in any classroom or on a bus will result in a referral. • You are NOT permitted to have any scented sprays on campus or buses. • You may have your parents pick up any items I confiscated the other day. • Cursing in a classroom, on school grounds, on the bus, at a school function will result in a detention. • The bus is an extension of the school and therefore, school uniform is required on the bus as it is in school.

  37. Somerset Environmental Club (SEC) Mr. Federici would like to invite all scholars to participate in helping take care of Mother Earth in a responsible manner. Do you do your part? Do you reduce, Reuse and Recycle? Do you know what that even means? In you are interested in saving the planet come by room 115 and sign up with MrFederici at any time. *Meeting day will be decided democratically by members. However, first meeting will be Thursday during lunch period in 115 *Students can get volunteer hours for participating and helping with the school wide Recycling Program
