FORIN-CHINA IRDR-CHINA Grants Project • Major natural disaster events especially earthquake, floods, drought, and special geological disasters occurred in the past years in China • Uses unified research method and model presented by IRDR-FORIN Working Group to study the causes and impacts of major natural disaster from integrated natural and social science perspectives DATA-CHINA • Data acquisition and category methods related to disasters in China • Casualty loss dataorganization and storage model • Rapid distribution and publishing method for disaster data

IND-CHINA IRDR-CHINA Grants Project Young Scientist • Assess the impacts of disaster events in China on regional and global ecosystem • Investigate a mechanism for sharing China disaster data for global climate and environmental changes issues • Provide quick research support to young to middle-career researchers for pursuing exciting and innovative disaster related research ideas • Enhance their understanding, skills and resources to design, organize and carry out disaster related studies in China

IRDR-CHINA Grants Project Outputs • Improve and support data sharing and services for disaster risk reduction • Enhance the application of integrated data for natural disaster mitigation and disaster risks management in China • Strengthen the collaboration in disaster risk management between scientific community and policy-makers

Academic Exchange • Delegation from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) visited CEODE, IRDR-CHINA ,IRDR IPO . • IRDR-CHINA Hosted a Session of Disaster Risk at ISEO2012 Convened in Kashgar, Xinjiang, China. • Academic exchange activities between • Chinese experts and overseas specialists on disaster risk and extreme climate events assessment and analyses. • IRDR-CHINA 2012 Symposium on IRDR (Nov. 6 2012, Chengdu, China.)

Perspectives of IRDR-China • Continue to put forward IRDR research, enhancing the level of Scientific support for disaster mitigation and management, especially for policy –making process; • Make efforts to organize social scientists and natural scientists to do trans-disciplinary and integrated study on major natural disaster chain risk and its mitigation ways; • Reinforce international cooperation in disaster research under ICSU IRDR framework, and lead Chinese Scientists to actively participate in IRDR working groups activities and make contributions to IRDR.
