  1. 4/16/14 • Bellwork: On page 122 of your notebook, write down the following prompt and brainstorm for each play, as if you were to write an essay. • “The success of any drama depends on the credibility of the protagonists.” Referring closely to at least two plays you have studied, explore to what extent and in what ways they illustrate the truth of this statement. • Agenda: • Bellwork • Handout – paper 2 study guide (page 121)/ command terms (123) • Classwork (122) – Produce: An outline and an introduction for this prompt • REMINDERS: • Senior presentations are NEXT WEEK! Be prepared. This is 15% of your English grade. • In danger of failing: Make sure your grade does not dip below a C.

Classwork – page 122 • Write an outline for the prompt: • Thesis: • It should answer the question and include the two texts you will use. • Point 1: This point should support your argument. • Evidence 1: This is a reference to a text that supports your points. • Evidence 2: see above • Evidence 3: see above • Point 2 • Evidence 1 • Evidence 2 • Evidence 3 • Point 3 • Evidence 1 • Evidence 2 • Evidence 3 • Here is the prompt again: • “The success of any drama depends on the credibility of the protagonists.” Referring closely to at least two plays you have studied, explore to what extent and in what ways they illustrate the truth of this statement. • After you are done writing an outline, craft a VERY GOOD introduction for this essay. • It should be at least three sentences. • Make sure you do the following: • Mention the texts and writers (by last name) you will be discussing • Put title in quotations marks when handwriting • Answer the question • Avoid general statements • Avoid saying things like, “In this essay I will examine the opening scenes of two different plays and look at the various techniques that playwrights use to make their opening as effective as possible” • Instead say something like  We are immediately aware of the claustrophobic neighbor in A Streetcar Named Desire and Albee’s opening dialogue presents a relationship under strain. From the opening moments of each drama, both playwrights make it obvious to their audiences that their plays will be dramatically tense.
