WDM-PON • Each ONU is served by one or more dedicated wavelengths. • A number of OLT Tx/Rx components map PON client signals onto separate wavelengths, which are multiplexed onto a shared, bidirectional fiber • Two kinds of WDM PON • Point to point WDM PON • hybrid WDM PON : a wavelength (especially upstream) may be shared by two or more ONUs • A wavelength control block (λ control) may be present to control the transmitted and received wavelengths and the respectively connected ONUs.

Summary • FSAN has decided the TDWDM-PON is chosen to be the main NGPON2 technology. • P2P WDM-PON will be used in little scenario. • G.989 is started to be drafted in ITU • The real application of NGPON2 will be after 2015 • 10GEPON and XGPON1 will be used as migration to the next generation PON, but they will last for long time.
