  1. Thou Shalt Really Listen Onstage FOURTH COMMANDMENT

  2. Relationship of actors onstage • The relationship of actors onstage also the relationship between actors and the audience is COMMUNION • Experiencing organically every beat of every scene • Living the role with truthfulness is ORGANIC ACTING • Each actor has a responsibility to each other to perform with serenity • Devote concentration to the moment

  3. Objective and Super-objective • Every character has an objective- try to achieve it at all times through out the play • It is up to you to find each objective of every scene, especially the super objective • The ultimate goal of the character is the super objective • All your actions will lead to it • Smaller objectives work towards achieving the characters super objective

  4. Analyzing every scene • Write down your objective in the margins of your script • As you rehearse your lines turn your objectives into your motivation • Your goal as an actor is to never lose sight of your characters super objective • Tackle each obstacle as it presents itself with urgency • An obstacle is anything keeping you from achieving your objective • These obstacles will direct the temple and dynamics of each scene • To identify the obstacle, you must first be certain of your objective

  5. Urgency • Once the objectives of the scene are determined you must uncover your characters sense of urgency • Urgency will be found in in the strength of all the super objective • Stronger objective = greater urgency thus greater motivation • Never choose weak language when deciding how to word your objective • Make bold and strong choices • Maintain momentum throughout the end

  6. Listening on Stage On a scene with another actor • when ever your line follows another actors cue line, yours becomes the reactionary line • a reaction happens spontaneously • If you are truly living the life of the character (focusing on the circumstances) you will react organically • If you are performing with truth your reactions will occur spontaneous

  7. As you listen to the other actors deliver their lines THE DIALOGUE THAT RUNS THROUGH OUR MINDS WHEN WE PERFORM ONSTAGE IS CALLED OUR INNER MONOLOGUE • All day people use there inner monologue • You consciously talk to yourselves onstage too • Your inner monologue should be responding to everything you here • It is Very important that it is working when your performing your scenes so your in the moment at all time • Allow it to react to everything you hear as well • Rewarded with honest acting

  8. Question • What is communion? • Living the role with truthfulness is what? • Stronger objective = what? • What is inner monologue? • When do you use it? • What is a super objective? • What leads up to your super objective? • What should you devote to a moment in a play?
