E N D
If you would like to see the most beautiful train station in Europe why don’t you visit the station of the former Warsaw-Vienna railway in Skierniewice. The building was built in the English Gothic style in 1875. It was completely devasted by a fire which burst out in 1914 and later rebuilt by an architect Jan Heurich . In 1992-2003 the station was renovated, restoring it to its former glory. Some of very prominent film directors, such as Andrzej Wajda in his “Promised Land”, have chosen the place as the settings of their stories. The Picture of the train station was also present in the film adaptation of B. Prus - "The Doll". The wooden platform of the station is worth-seeing because it exists in the original form since 1893. Inside the station a visitor can see - sgraffiti painted by A and M. Mieszkowskich. It is the fruit of socialist realism (1954).
The hero of "Dolls" written by Bolesław Prus - Stanisław Wokulski greets travellers on the train station platform in Skierniewice. The monument depicting a character from literature has become one of the promotional items of Skierniewice. The sculpture is the work of Robert Sobocinski, Professor Pieniazek's Bench.
