  2. Functions of KO program • Make KO draw according to ITTF rules • Hand draw or Automatic draw for top seeds • Automatic draw for other players • Make schedule • Input score • Automatic print out ready-to-play matches • Make report

  3. Necessary Files • Newest version of program_KO_YYYYMMDD.xls • data_Common.xls • data_KO.xls • 3 files must be put in a same fold.

  4. data_Common.xls • 2 sheets in data_Common.xls • [Tournament] sheet : organizer’s data • [Players] sheet : players’ data • data_Common.xls need authorization by the author. • After you fill the [Tournament] and [Players] sheets, please send the data_Common.xls to dr.wu@free.fr for authorization. • You need to pay a certain rental fee for authorization.

  5. Re-Authorization • Any change of [Tournament] sheet needs re-authorization • Over 2% change (or minimal 5 changes) of sheet [Players] needs re-authorization • Any change of a player's country, family name, and given name counts for 1 change • Add 1 player counts for 1 change. • Players deletion does NOT count. • Change playerID, sex, class, data of birth, teamID, and teamEvent do NOT count.

  6. data_KO.xls • The working book for program_KO • 2 exist sheets [Set] and [Event] • [Set] sheet controls the program. • [Event] sheet consists defination of KO events • Other sheets will be created automatically when you begin to run the program.

[Event] sheet of data_KO.xls • Defination of KO events • You can input as many events as you want. • A blank row means STOP • Input IPTTC event code to column <Event Name Abbreviation> • Referee decides the <Seed number> • For some important top seeds, you can <Draw by hand> • Green column is the selection criteria to select players from [Players] sheet • Red column will be filled by computer

IPTTC KO Event Codes • OM1-5 or OM5 : Open Male Class 1 to 5 • OM6-10 or OMA : Open Male Class 6 to 10 • OF1-5 or OF5 : Open Female Class 1 to 5 • OF6-10 or OFA : Open Female Class 6 to 10 • First character : O = Open KO event • Second character : M = Men, F = Female • Last character : the class

  11. For the new user If it is the first time for you to use the program, please read the instruction slowly and carefully every time you click a button. The program is very easy to use, all you need is to click the buttons following the red number 1,2,3…… The program itself will guide you how to use it correctly.

  12. Bye arrangement There are 2 types of BYE arrangements for you to choose. Input Y and N to row <BYE position according to ITTF 2003 handbook(type 2)> in data_KO.xls Y for type 1 BYE (New type from ITTF 2003 handbook) N for type 2 BYE (Classical and more popular type)

  14. Button 2 1. Read event entries form [Players] sheet according to [Event] 2. Make [xxx_list] sheet 3. You can not change [xxx_list] sheet

  15. Button 3 For some important top seeds, the referee can make their draw by hand. The number is defined in <Draw by hand> column in [Event] sheet. The number of <Draw by hand> can not be greater than <Seed number>

  17. Click the <Stop> to stop the dice, the <Stop> changes to <Draw> Click the <Draw> to move the dice again. If you don’t want to use the computer dice, you can draw by your own pokers or number card, and click the small circle to input the draw. Click <OK> to send the player to his/her position.

  18. Decide the area firstThen draw the position In fact, when doing the draw, you need to decide the area first, then draw the position. If the player number of a country is NOT power of 2 (1,2,4,8,…), then you can draw to decide the area. The program will detect if need to decide the area and shows the menu to you automatically.

  19. You can drag/move the draw in [xxx_hand] sheet before click next button (button 4). This allows you make draw by your own method.

  20. Button 4 Other seeds will be drawn automatically by computer The draw result is saved in [xxx_draw] sheet

Button 5 • To prove that the draw result is fully compatible with ITTF rules, the program will make checking list when you click button 5 • There are 2 checking list : [xxx_seed] and [xxx_area] sheets. • [xxx_seed] sheet shows the even distribution of ranking seeds and country seeds. • [xxx_area] sheet shows the even distribution of country players.

  22. Button 6 • Button 6 will make [xxx_ko] sheet and the [TT] sheet. • TT is the abbreviation of ‘Time-Table’ • Each cell in [TT] sheet means a match. • You can rearrange the cells of [TT] sheets to make the schedule you want.

  23. The origin [TT] sheet • Each colored cell represents a match. • OM5,top64-1 : ‘OM5’ is the event name, ‘top’ means ko match, ’64-1’ means 1st match in 64 entries. • Cell comment consists of opponents’ data and match number.

How to rearrange [TT] sheet • You can drag/move or cut/paste the cells in [TT] sheet. • You can NOT change the content of any match cell of [TT] sheet. • You can modify the table number, date and time cells to what you want. • A blank match cell means an empty table, you can NOT add any word into a blank match cell (e.g. ‘lunch’ or ‘rest’) • Must avoid ‘time-conflict’, e.g. a player appears at 2 tables at a time section.

  26. Button 7 Remind you to rearrange [TT] sheet to what you want.

  27. Button 8 • Make [match] sheet. • [match] sheet consists all match data in rows. • Fill date-time-table data into [xxx_ko] and [match] sheet according to the schedule data in [TT] sheet. • Make [TX] sheet. • Prepare [myMatch] sheet.

  29. [TX] sheet You can print out the [TX] sheet and put on your desk.

[myMatch] sheet • [myMatch] sheet will be created when you click button 8 (Make match sheet) • Saved in myMatch file automatically. • It shows data-time-table of all matches for a player assuming that he/she will be the champion. • Each player has a A4 sheet, please print it out and give to all players. It will be a very good service from the organizer.

  31. Button 9 • You can print out all score cards before the competition starts. • You can run the competion without the computer.

  32. Button 10 • Input score of each match. • Automatic fill the score into [xxx_ko] sheet and [match] sheet. • Automatic detect and print out read-to-play KO matches.

  35. Automatically detecting ready-to-play matches The program will remind you if any read-to-play match is detected. Please print it out and give the score sheet to umpire for play.

  36. Diagonal line in [TT] and [TX] sheets Diagonal down line will appear on a match cell if score has been input. Diagonal up line will appear on a match cell if score sheet has been printed out.

  38. Button TOOLS • Make IPTTC report and Medal list in few seconds. • Make electronic result book for all teams. • Make HTM files for publish on internet. • You need not to make paper book any more.

  39. Safe copy • Save and Make historic copy of data_KO.xls • You will not lose all data if any accident condition occurs. • You shall click this button hourly.

  40. Automatic Scheduling Top secret to get a good-night sleep after draw meeting A wonderful gift from Dr.Wu

  41. Make schedule quickly • Prepare a schedule before the draw meeting • Save it (sheet [TTset]) in the data book • The program will finish the scheduling work according to your schedule immediately during or after the draw meeting • By this way, you will be very relax and have a long, good-night sleep after the draw meeting

  42. After dealine of entry • Input entries’ data to [Players] in data_Common.xls and input the [Even] sheet in data book • Before the draw meeting, Run the competition program ( for example : program_KO.xls ) to create a [TT] sheet in data book ( data_KO.xls ). • Change [TT] sheet’s name to [TTset] • Rearrange the [TTset] sheet to the schedule you want • Save the data book ( data_KO.xls )

  43. Before the draw meeting • Modify the [Players] sheet in data_Common.xls if entry changes. • Re-Make a new [TTset] sheet if too many entries change.

  44. In the draw meeting • Run the competition program to make a new official draw • Save the data book and make a copy for security

  45. During or After the draw meeting • Run the competition program, click the button <Make KO and TT sheets> to create a new [TT] sheet • This new [TT] sheet contains new draw data in its cell comments. • When the program asks you if you want to use the schedule in [TTset], answer ‘Y’ • The program then rearrange the [TT] according to the arrangement of [TTset]. • The original [TT] is saved in the name of [TT after draw]

  46. Caution • Some extra matches not found in [TTset] will be put at bottom line of [TT] sheet • You need to put them into position in [TT] by yourself • The program will remind you if there is any extra matches found

  47. Notes • If too many entries change is already known before the draw meeting, please make a new [TTset] sheet • To input ‘N’ to row ‘Need draw for tail bye’ in [Set] sheet in data book, will make the grouping change less • There is a chance to have a player appear in two tables in a time section, if the entry decreases in a group in the draw meeting, please adjust them by your hand.
