What are the Goals of our Expert Meeting? • Exchange Perspectives on Sustainable Development (and its Adversaries) • Discuss Approaches, Experiences and Opportunities in Promoting Sustainable Development • Identify Areas of Future Action for Supporting Sustainable Development, particularly through Vocational Education and Training
ETF and Sustainable Development • The transformation to low-carbon economies and sustainable lifestyles is a transnational challenge and does not stop at borders • Vocational education and training, entrepreneurial learning and labour market policies are key drivers for the transformation • ETF can be agent and platform for policy dialogue and policy learning
Sustainable Development and ETF The Three Dimensions of Sustainable Development (and how they relate to ETF‘s work): Environmental Dimension: • educate how to use resources wisely and how to reduce waste… Economic Dimension: • learn how to consume and produce sustainably… Social Dimension: • provide equitable and inclusive access to education and promote active citizenship…
Possible Fields of Action for ETF Support and encourage partner countries in their efforts to • focus education reforms on the competence for problem solving, the awareness of environmental issues and the values that support sustainable actions; • ensure access and inclusiveness of education (gender, age, ethnicity etc.); • make VET schools stakeholders in their local environment and agents for local sustainable development; • Identify and develop green skills in order to support the greening of products and services, the growth of green sectors and to improve overall competitiveness in a low-carbon future; • develop green knowledge and management systems for cleaner and sustainable production; • develop and implement indicators for monitoring status quo and progress in the areas outlined above. Last but not least: Become greener ourselves as an organisation!
Sustainability Cafe • 5 groups with 5-6 people each, each group assembling around a “table” • One host per “table”, who moderates and presents the ideas of his/her table at the end • 3 consecutive rounds, lasting 30min. each • Change “table” after the first round, go back to your original “table” for the third round (hosts remain on their “tables” for all three rounds) • One question for each round • Note ideas and results on index cards • Hosts present key ideas of their “tables” after the conclusion of the third round
Question 1: Be an Optimist and imagine yourself in 10 years‘ time: How has the world around you (in your country, in your field of work) become more sustainable?
Question 2: What are the main obstacles on the way to get there?
Question 3: How can education and training (for all age groups) make a significant contribution to overcome these obstacles and arrive at the more sustainable future you envision?
