    12. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance …to consult the enforcing authority before passing plans Where it is proposed to erect a building…the local authority must consult the enforcing authority before passing… Where it is proposed to change the use…the local authority must consult the enforcing authority before passing…

    13. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Enforcement notices Before serving an enforcement notice…the enforcing authority must consult…the local authority… etc

    14. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Offences It is an offence…to fail to comply with articles 8 to 22 and 38…where that failure places one or more relevant persons at risk of death or serious injury in case of fire…

    15. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance But the RRFSO is not the only show in town… ….I often hear from colleagues in the FRS that we don’t need plans anymore as fire certification is going…. ….and for sure that is the only thing that is going…. ….there are still many more reasons for retaining the use of plans than the solitary reason for not doing so…. ….we believe that plans provide an effective and efficient means of communicating complex design issues between stakeholders….

    16. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Business Awareness What are the changes to legislation that affect business How do they affect the business premises Impact of Fire and Rescue Service Act 2004 Local - Integrated Risk Management Plans Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order Offences Fire fighter Safety

    17. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Change to fire safety legislation What are the changes to legislation that affect business? How do they affect the business and its premises? What must they do? What happens if they don’t do something they must do? What is the minimum they have to do to comply? How much will it cost to comply? What is the risk of non-compliance?

    18. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Changes to Fire and Rescue Service Role Impact of Fire and Rescue Service Act 2004? Fire Safety Advise Risk Information 7(2)(d), 8(3)(d), 9(3)(d) Fire Investigation Local - Integrated Risk Management Plans Changes to local response times and location and crewing of fire stations Dealing with false alarms generated by automatic fire alarms Changed focus of fire and rescue service to fire prevention especially in the home

    20. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Fire-fighter Safety Location and crewing of fire and rescue stations IRMP’s Competency Training and Experience Risk Information Information management systems Nature of hazards The working environment Measures for the protection of Fire-fighters Building Regulations Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order

    21. 22. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Effective Communication Identifying stakeholders Working together with others where necessary to establish best fire safety solution Identifying their reasonable needs and incorporating them where practicable Consultation and communication with all relevant persons Maintaining arrangements and communicating changes to the plan as necessary

    26. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance

    27. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Requirement for plans? There is a requirement to submit plans for planning and building regulations WHY? There was no specific requirement for plans to be used in respect to Fire Certificates issued the FP Act 1971, but they were generally always used WHY? Architects draw buildings in plan form often using CAD as the sole source and drawing in 3D WHY? Routeplanning solutions use maps WHY?

    28. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Effective and Efficient Communication Because it is far easier to visualise the information in plan or map form rather than as a text based document How many Fire and Rescue Services use a solely text based Risk Information Card for Emergency Responders? How many Fire and Rescue Services did not use plans in Fire Certificates? Using visual communication can significantly enhance knowledge acquisition, particularly when using it in the 3D environment for training Better understanding and comprehension of the working environment will add value to the safety of all relevant persons

    29. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Mutually beneficial opportunities Sharing risk information with those who will be assisting you in an emergency Understanding the extent to which emergency intervention will be practicable and how it is likely to assist in reducing the impact of a fire at your premises Understanding what is not possible Developing emergency plans, disaster plans, and business continuity plans that will actually work Shared training events to prove pre-plans and learn about limitations Extended knowledge for emergency responders about premises they are unlikely to visit as part of risk based audit programmes which will focus generally on higher risk premises in their area

    30. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance Summary To advise business on the fire safety regulations that apply to them What they must do to comply in the most cost effective manner To further improve fire prevention in the business environment To plan for a fire and to minimise its likely impact To reduce the threat of litigious or enforcement action being taken against the business as a result of fire related issues To communicate with all relevant persons as necessary

    31. Taurus Fire Safety … providing fire safety assistance And finally To keep the business in business after a fire We fully support and promote the use of plans as an aid to effective communication Thank you
