Current Projects • 2 e-Learning courses • International Water Law (4th edition, in French) • Water Diplomacy (2nd edition, in English) • Main objectives • Strengthen multilateralism, develop and implement strategies to translate UN norms and decisions into concrete actions, prevent conflict, build peace. • Provide professionals involved in negotiating or implementing treaties on or related to freshwater resources with an advanced knowledge of the principles and norms that govern the use, sharing, management and protection of this exhaustible natural resource. • Raise awareness on the current state of freshwater resources worldwide and the need for adequate diplomatic solutions to stimulate cooperation around the way the resource is managed

Results – Int’ Water Law course • Last edition: 2 June – 4 July 2014 • 12 weeks of promotion, limited and targeted (LDC and developing countries), 514 applications, 123 countries • 42 participants from 39 countries + Palestine • 74% LDC and developing countries, 45% Asia, 29% Africa, 26% Europe, Latin America, others • 44% Government, 18% NGO, 10% Academia, 10% UN, 10% IO, 5% Private sector, 3% others • 57% Male, 43% Female • 79% Completion rate (quizzes, written report, case study, participation) • 100% quality of the course material • 100% usefulness of the course • 97% likelihood to use knowledge acquired • 95% learning objectives were met • Next edition: focus on 13 countries, 200 complete applications received, deadline end of September

Results – Water Diplomacy course • Last edition: 21 October– 17 November 2013 • 5 weeks of promotion, limited and targeted (diplomats to the UN and government officials) • 18 participants from 15 countries • 50% from LDC and developing countries • 30% Government, 24% IO, 22% others, 12% Academia, 6% NGO, 6% Private sector • 50% Male, 50% Female • 78% Completion rate (quizzes, written report, case study, participation) • 100% quality of the course material • 100% usefulness of the course • 100% likelihood to use knowledge acquired • 96% learning objectives were met • Next edition: November-December 2014 (flexible)

Synergies with other GPWIs projects Geneva Water Pole Eau – Education & Knowledge Pole • Collaboration with Unige (2015) • CAS: Facilitation of the 8th module (Water Diplomacy) • MOOC: International Water Law Module • Creation and facilitation of case studies and serious games exercises • Networking and synergies with Unige

Geneva Water Pole Eau Beyond the “Knowledge & Education” component • Think Tank Facilitation and Networking / International Geneva Global Actors • Briefings similar to the Post-15 development agenda briefings in NYC and Geneva. Series of Briefings on Water topics cleared by UN agencies. • Customized activities (Briefings, High-Level Retreats, High-Level Panels, Conferences, Informal sessions) • Award for unblocking negotiation deadlocks in water diplomacy • Implementation Unit • Creation of a Professional P2-P3 Position working with the Implementation Unit, in cooperation with the different actors involved
