    3. 3 Fiscal and Macro-economic Framework Ugandas economy has been growing over the last 23 years Liberation of markets from state interventions No requirement for state participation in private investments Incentives to the mining sector include: 100% deductible exploration expenditure Variable Rate Income Tax for mining Zero Rate Duty on mining equipment

    5. 5 Ownership of minerals is vested in the state Various types of mineral rights/ licenses Royalties payable on mineral production Compensation payable for disturbance of surface rights Mineral agreements for large scale investments Environmental protection

    7. 7 Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources Project (SMMRP)? The project aims at assisting in: capacity building institutional and regulatory reforms improvement of small-scale and artisan mining establishment of environment and social management capacity development of requisite physical infrastructure country wide acquisition of geological information information on mineral resources potential

    9. Support to artisanal and small-scale miners and communities The objective is to advance sustainable development of artisanal and small-scale mining in rural areas and promote economic growth, employment and poverty alleviation.

    10. The project has trained staff of the Department of Geological Survey and Mines and other stakeholders in the Mineral sector Capacity Building

    11. This activity will increase accuracy/transparency of the licensing systems thus reducing conflicts. Establishment of Computerized mining cadastre and registry system
