Mental Health Month • Background:Mental Health Month was created more than 50 years ago by Congress to raise awareness of mental health conditions and the importance of mental health. • 2009 Mental Health Month — This May, Mental Health America is launching the Live Your Life Well campaign, designed to help people better manage stress and major life challenges by taking actions to preserve and strengthen their mental health. The campaign features 10 specific tools — activities each of us can do to better handle challenges, protect our health, and increase our well-being. http://www.mentalhealthamerica.net/go/mhm/2009/stress

Two (Three?) -Part Mental Health Training Series in May What you can do as a Navigator in your local area: • Register for Mental Health Training Series • Schedule a conference room with an LCD projector and a speaker phone • Invite staff and partners (including MH partners!) to attend webinar presentations • Facilitate follow-up discussion • Serve as point person on group action-items

What is a 30 Second Training? • A 30-Second Training is a quick fun Power Point slide show that is electronically sent out and can be completed in a very short amount of time hence, 30-Seconds Trainings. They provide disability and employment information usually with a resource link for those that are interested in furthering their knowledge and expertise.

What is a 30 Second Training? continued… Purpose of the 30-Second Trainings: • Designed to be short, easy and fun • Not designed to be a test but rather to increase knowledge of disability and employment related issues • Should only take about 30 seconds to review • Includes national, reputable resources for follow up information

Review of Mental Health 30-Second Training Package • Coordinated effort on sending out 30-Second Mental Health Trainings. • 30-Second Mental Health Trainings will go out in a specific order each Friday morning in May; • Friday, May 1st – Mental Health Month PPT • Friday, May 8th – Compassion Fatigue/Secondary Trauma PPT • Friday, May 15th – Mental Health Awareness for Youth • Friday, May 22nd – Veterans and PTSD • Friday, May 29th - Schizophrenia
