What is an EMS STEMI Storyboard? • A method of EMS outreach that allows follow-up and recognition of prehosptial providers involved in the STEMI process. • A bulletin board that is at least 3 feet wide by 2 feet high. The one shown in the upcoming slides is a Quartet Prestige colored corkboard with light cherry wood trim. The plastic title at the top was manufactured in house. • An avenue that provides ongoing training to those involved in the treatment of STEMI patients.

  4. You have your Bulletin Board, What’s Next? Hang your board in a conspicuous location that is well traveled by the EMS providers in your area. In our institution we hung it outside of our Chest Pain Center in our Emergency Department. Once hung, it’s time to decide what data you want to post. I will go through what we have decided to post based on ensuring that all appropriate confidentiality has been maintained.

  5. The Data for your Board • Photograph the EMS crew that transported the STEMI patient to your facility. (Be sure to list each individual’s name left to right below the photo) • Under the photo provide a basic narrative of what the EMS providers reported and what was the outcome of the patient. Be sure NOT to use a patient’s name. We remove the name from all documents and only use initials and age. (Ex: DS, a 39 year old male) • The second sheet should be the results from the Cardiac Cath Lab. Our lab provides us with a visual of the coronary tree and shows exactly which vessel was occluded and at what percentage. It also shows the same post catherization.

  6. 4. The third page should have a copy of Data Sheet A from the STEMI packet with the patient name removed that will show the timeline of care as the patient was treated within your department. 5. The fourth page should be the local EMS protocol for suspected STEMI cases. All of the above pages should be done in portrait mode on 8 ½ x 11 paper and placed left to right across the top of the bulletin board.

  7. 6. The fifth page should be a copy of the EMS EKG that was used to identify a potential STEMI in progress. 7. The sixth page should be a copy of the 12-lead EKG performed in the Emergency Department which confirmed the EMS suspicion of a STEMI. 8. The last page should be a copy of the post catherization EKG. These last three pages should be in landscape mode and on standard 8 ½ x 11 paper and placed across the bottom of the bulletin board.
