Summary Six year-old Scout and her older brother Jem live with their father Atticus in a small Alabama town. Soon, Atticus is appointed to defend a Negro man, who was accused of committing a terrible crime to a young white woman. Many of the citizens disapprove, and insult Atticus. Scout and Jem have to deal with racism and injustice.
