Secure Editing of Encrypted Data using Untrusted Cloud Services

Yan Huang and David Evans from the University of Virginia developed a solution to edit encrypted data securely in the cloud, preserving privacy and functionality. The approach involves a Firefox extension for private editing using Google Documents, focusing on protecting data on untrusted servers while ensuring minimal interference with existing functionalities. The protocol includes incremental encryption techniques to enable practical secure computation, despite threats from untrusted servers. Performance evaluations indicate only a slight degradation in functionality, making secure editing of encrypted data a feasible option.
