Guilford (1897-1987) • Achieved a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Nebraska • Achieved a Ph.D. from Cornell University • Taught grades 1 through 8 in Nebraska from 1915-1917 • Professor at University of Nebraska from 1932-1940 • Professor at University of South California from 1940-1967 • Director of Psychological Research at Santa Ana Army Air Force Base from 1942-1946

Contributions & Achievements • Concluded that IQ tests could not measure creativity • Experimented with attention and visual perception, learning and memory, and experimental esthetics • Contributed to Statistical Psychology regarding test theory and evaluation, factor analysis, psychophysics, and scaling • Measured mental abilities including knowledge gained from factor analytic studies • Created the structure of Intellect model that could identify learning abilities and disabilities • Discovered Personality theory and measurement • Wrote or helped write over 25 books, 30 tests and 300 journal articles
