  1. Performance Test 1:Design Concept Comparisons Objective and Goals Lab Procedure Analysis Test Readiness Review

  2. FINAL DESIGN AEV Project Objective (Problem Definition) Initial Concepts (Brainstorming) Initial experimental Research (Programming) (Power Available) (Energy Analysis) PT 1 PT 2 PT 3 PT 4 Present AEV Design

  3. Objectives • To build second AEV concept, • To test, using the same operational procedures as Energy Analysis and Efficiency Labs, and • To test and compare both AEV concepts

  4. Goals • Plot AEV comparison propulsion system efficiency and power-time curves, • Determine and compare energy used throughout AEV operations, • Record results in Preliminary Design Review, and • Use results to select AEV concept to move forward with the detailed Critical Design Review process

  5. Procedure Document Overview Overview • Review Lab Rules • Review Energy Analysis and Efficiency Labs procedures • Build and test second AEV concept • Compare and analyze data for both AEV concepts

  6. Testing Procedure – This Week Sec. 2.2: AEV and AEV Component Testing – Work Through Together • Build second AEV concept • If propeller configuration is different from the first AEV concept, perform wind tunnel testing on the second AEV concept propeller configuration • Test second AEV on desktop and classroom track, using Energy Analysis Lab operational procedure

  7. Data Analysis Sec. 3: Data Analysis cont. • Use AEV Design Software and Excel to compare AEV concepts • Calculate and compare total energy used

  8. Data Analysis – What does it mean?

  9. PT1 AEV Design Cycle Assignments • Prepare PT1-TRRRequirements (DUE at the BEGINNING of the lab) • Finalize PDR, includingAEV-PT1 Summary document, using Grading Guidelines

  10. PT1-TRR Requirements • Assemble second AEV concept • Discuss the necessary tests needed in order to complete the concept comparisons, and testing strategy (division of the team) to accomplish the goals. • Create a table of the specific tasks.

  11. PT1 Day 1 • Start working on PT1 Test Readiness Review Document including: • Assembling second AEV • Planning for additional wind tunnel testing (if needed) • Planning for additional classroom track testing • Manage your time and team member responsibilities!

  12. PT1 Day 2: Work Session • Continue working on PT1 Test Readiness Review Document including: • Start PT1 Summary following PT1 and PDR Grading Guidelines • Continue working on PDR report • Desktop Wind Tunnel and AEV Static Testing can be tested following procedure document • Classroom wind tunnel schedule for testing is posted in the class drive • Manage your time and team member responsibilities!

  13. PT1 Day 3: Lab • Test Readiness Review document is due at the Beginning of Lab • Schedule for testing is posted in the class drive: • Wind tunnel and classroom track schedule for testing is posted in the class drive • Finish Performance Test 1 and write summary results as part of PDR report • Prepare for Performance Test 2 • Assigned readings, etc.
