  1. The observation of the operculum movement of fish in different temperature of water

  2. INTRODUCTION Fish are an important resource for humans worldwide, especially as food. Commercial and subsistence fishers hunt fish in wild fisheries or farm them in ponds or in cages in the ocean . They are also caught by recreational fishers, kept as pets, raised by fish keepers, and exhibited in public aquaria. Fish have had a role in culture through the ages, religious symbols, and as the subjects of art, books and movies. However, not all of us appreciated how they live and how they died also how fish can live in different temperature of water?

  3. OBJECTIVE To determine what factors affect the movement of the operculum of a fish according to the temperature of the water the fish intakes. To determine the flaps of operculum movement in both container.

  4. HYPOTHESIS Ho : There is no relationship between the operculum movement and the life span of the fish.Ha :There is a relationship between the operculum movement and the life span of the fish.

  5. MATERIALS • 2 container Ice cubes 120ml of water 10g of detergent • Thermometer 2 fish

  6. METHODS • 120ml of water was put in two containers resulting to 600ml of water in each container which is the container A and the container B. The container A was filled 10g of detergent . • The 600ml of water in container B is mixed with ice cubes. • The temperature of container B was measured by the thermometer. One fish was added in each container. • The observation started.

  7. RESULTS

  8. DISCUSSION In Container A, where the 600ml of water mixed with 10g of detergent, fish died in 5 minutes because poisonous water can result in low oxygen levels which may lead to fish kill because oxygen passes allowing fishes to breathe. In the second container, where water filled with crushed ice, fish died in 13 minutes due to the temperature of the water the fish intakes, resulting the breathing process will stop.

  9. CONCLUSION Therefore, the fish in container B where the 600ml of water filled with crushed ice, live longer than the container A where 600ml of water mixed with 10g of detergent due to the behaviour of operculum.
