  2. The Server Link to Access to EBSCOhost http://search.ebscohost.com/ Type in the following link to your Internet Browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox) and Click on Go or press Enter key If you have an INTRANET, kindly click on the respective EBSCO link within the Intranet

  3. In this page, you are allowed to choose the database/s you wish to search inside, majorly applicable if you have bought multiple databases.

  4. 1. Once you choose the database, the page appearing will be the Search Interface – where you can start your search for articles, reports, journals etc.If you are not been taken to the search page, there are chances of some errors with the IP address; kindly check with the respective manager for details.2. The Search interface support the keyword based searching by choosing Basic / Advanced / Visual Searching options.3. Also you can have a publication wise (journal wise) search by selecting the publication tab on the left top corner.4. FULL TEXT links will be there after each result and there will be options to print, download, mail the articles.5. You can prepare notes on each article and store documents in a folder by creating personal folder (My EBSCOhost) – Items can be added to folder by clicking on ADD TO FOLDER right after each result.6. Also the options allow you to create alerts on keywords, journals – which all will be summarized in the folder.7. It’s recommended that, you sign-in (right-top side) into the personal folder with your UID & PWD before start your searching. FEW IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER

  5. 1. Basic Search Keyword Based Searching

  6. We’ll begin by conducting a Basic Search on “global warming” – just like your Google. You can view available limiters and expanders by clicking on Search Options.

  7. Under the Search Options, it is easy to limit or expand your search results. You can choose from one of the available Search Modes and depending upon the databases you have chosen, you may see the ability to limit a search by Full Text articles, Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals, or a particular publication that you enter in the field provided.

  8. If you misspell your keyword(s), the Spellchecker function will suggest alternate spellings. The Result List defaults to showing All Results, and can be filtered to view results by specific document type, such as Academic Journals, Magazines, or Books/Monographs, using the links at the top of the list.

  9. Your result screen is displayed here, which can be sorted on Relevance, Date, source. The links to get fulltext is also given there, along with the abstracts view and link to add the article to Folder. Also the page contains Limiters on both the sides. Right side: Options for limiting to FULLTEXT, PEER-Reviewed, Date Sliding. Left Side: Subject clusters on Source of Articles, Subject Thesaurus Terms, Industry, Company, Publications, Geography etc.

  10. 2. Advanced Search Keyword Based Searching

If you go to the advance search page, where you will learn about the key Advanced Search screen features, from limiters and expanders, the ability to save searches, set up Search and Journal Alerts, search Publications and browse Indexes, to how to manage search results in your personalized My EBSCOhost folder.

  12. CONDUCT SEARCH: Guided Style searching allows you to simultaneously search for different terms in varying article citation fields. Begin by entering a search term in the first Find field, and then select which field(s) to search, from the drop-down list, such as Subject Terms.

  13. Guide your search using a second term, such as a publication name, and select the SO Journal Name field. You may enter a third search term and choose the All Text field to have EBSCOhost look within the full text of all articles for your term. Note: You can conduct command line searches using the appropriate field tags, e.g., SO for Journal Name, in front of the search term in the Find field. • Please see the use of Boolean Operators – AND – OR - NOT

  14. SET LIMITERS: Under the Search Options, the Advanced Search Screen offers additional search limiters for increased result refinement. For example, you can limit results to Full Text articles within a specified date range. Click Search to view the Result List.

  15. RESULT LIST: You can sort the Result List by Date, Source, Author, or Relevance using the drop-down list at the top. You can also view results sorted by any subject shown along the left of the list. Results can be saved in the temporary session folder by clicking on the Add to folder icon.

  16. To place a link to the search in your personal folder, click Alert/Save/Share. From the resulting menu, choose Add search to folder. From this menu, you can also create an alert or an RSS feed, copy a persistent link (Permalink) to your search, or add a bookmark to your web browser favorites.

  17. My EBSCOhost PERSONALIZED FOLDER: To save results beyond the current session, log in to My EBSCOhost, where saved items will remain until you delete them. If you do not already have a personalized folder account, click on the I’m a new userlink to create one, at no charge. From within My EBSCOhost you can print, e-mail, save, and export all stored results.

  18. SEARCH HISTORY/ALERTS OPTIONS: Click the Search History/Alerts link under the Find field to access Search History options. From here you can rerun a previously conducted search by marking the check box in front of it and clicking Add. Or, you can Print your Search History, Retrieve Searches or Alerts, Save Searches or Alerts, or Clear your Search History via the corresponding hyperlinks.

  19. SAVE SEARCHES by clicking on the Save Searches/Alerts link after you have conducted a search you would like to save in your personalized folder. This function always applies to the most recently conducted search.

  20. Fill in the fields and choose the radio button in front of the Permanent or Temporary Saved Search option, and then click on the Save button. Your search criteria will remain in your personalized My EBSCOhost folder until you delete it.

  21. SEARCH ALERTS can be created for the most recently conducted Advanced Search, by clicking on the Save Searches/Alertslink and filling in the resulting form. Choose the radio button in front of the Alert option.

  22. Publication wise Searching

  23. PUBLICATIONS can be searched directly using the Publications authority file button along the top toolbar. Click on it to see an alphabetized list of every publication represented in the database.

  24. JOURNAL ALERTS can be set up using the same Publications authority file button. Click on Publications to see the alphabetized list of publications available, choose the one you want to set up as an alert, and click on the hyperlinked publication name.

  25. Click on the Alert/Save/Share link in the upper right corner of the resulting publication details page and then select Create an Alert.

  26. Creating Personal Folder My EBSCOhost Folder

  27. Welcome to the My EBSCOhost tutorial, which demonstrates how to set up and make the most of the free personalization (My EBSCOhost) folder, allowing users to extend the usage of EBSCOhost search results beyond their current session. Personalized folder accounts are simple to set up, and can be created by any user accessing EBSCOhost.

  28. In addition to search results, My EBSCOhost users can store Images, Videos,Persistent Links to Searches, Saved Searches, Search Alerts, Journal Alerts and Web Pages created using EBSCO’s free Page Composer program. From within the Personalized folder, users can print, email, save, or export search results, images or videos.

  29. We’ll begin by clicking on the Sign In to MyEBSCOhostlink. Click on the I’m a new user link and fill in the fields. Click Continue. Once your information has been accepted, you will automatically be logged in as a personalized folder user.

  30. When you conduct a Basic or Advanced Search after logging in to your personalized folder, you can save particular Result List items to your personalized folder by clicking on the Add to folder link to the left of the relevancy bar for each article. These saved search results can be examined more closely at a later date, as well as printed, emailed or saved to your computer.

  31. By clicking the Alert/Save/Share link and then clicking Add search to folder, you can add a persistent link to a search to your personalized folder, which can then be emailed, saved or clicked later on to run the search, showing any new results that have been added to the database.

  32. From the Publication Details page of most journals represented in the database you are searching, you can set up a Journal Alert, which will be kept in your personalized My EBSCOhost folder until you delete it. Journal Alerts provide automatic notification via email whenever a new issue of the specified publication has been added to the database, eliminating the need to continually check the database for new issues.
