  2. Involving members NUT HQ sent an all member email on 23rd April asking for volunteers to: • Become NUT rep • Work on a street stall • Lobby MP locally • Take part in national lobby of parliament on 10thJune We will write to members about this and strike

  3. Involving members • When volunteers sign up Division and Association Secretaries will receive a notification email and will need to follow up with the member. HQ and regions will also receive data. • Division and Association Secretaries should also seek volunteers, particularly if none forthcoming from initial email push. Also asked to seek parent volunteers.

  4. Lobbying locally –in May/June • Ask one lobbyist to contact MP (or contact directly) to arrange for a meeting – a model email is available on Hearth – see guide to lobbying your MP locallyfor more info. • Good examples already from many areas – a worthwhile activity to involve members and pressure MPs. • Send reports of local lobbying to lobby@nut.org.uk

  5. Stand Up for Education stalls - in May/June • We would like divisions to continue with the stalls that worked so well last term. • This term we want a focus to be the lobbying – we want to collect scores of statements from parents and teachers that the lobbyists can bring to Parliament. • There will be a new leaflet and a postcard to encourage statements.

  6. National lobby parliament 10th June • HQ will be contacting heads associations in the hope they will give supportive advice. • Select lobbyists from list of ‘new’ activists. If necessary prioritise these as follows (1) supportive head who will allow member cover (2) both live and work in constituency (3) live in constituency (4) work in constituency. • HQ to pay for travel expenses for up to 2 lobbyists (either two members or one member and a parent).

  7. National lobby parliament 10th June • To help you identify parents we will send you email addresses gathered on street stalls and via the website. • Divisions to organise cover for each lobbyist. • Ask one lobbyist to contact MP to arrange for a meeting – model emails on Hearth/NUT website. • Divisions to register lobbyists on survey monkey. • Further materials, how to lobby guide etc to follow.

  8. Looking for local newspaper coverage NUT HQ will provide: • Model press release to announce lobbyist selected. • Model press release to announce local meeting with MP. • Model press release re outcomes of lobby. • Model article for local paper in names of lobbyists.

  9. Using the lobby to build for the strike • We lobbied to avoid a strike • Took hundreds of messages to MPs But Gove didn’t listen. • Our strike to defend teachers is essential to defend education.
