  6. Some facts about Argentina • The capital is Buenos Aires • The main language is Spanish • The main religion is Catholic • The population is estimated to be over 41 million by 2011 – New Zealand has only 4 million people!! • The name Argentina comes from Latin and means land of silver

  8. …and more facts • Argentina declared independence from Spain on 9 July 1816 • Eva Peron was the popular wife of Juan Peron, who became President in the 1950’s. She died aged 33 and Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the musical Evita about her.

  9. … and even MORE facts!!! • Argentina was one of the first countries to have radio broadcasting, with the first broadcast being in August 1920. Only 20 people had a radio! • A major export is wine • Crocodiles live in Argentina!

The Puma’s • They are ranked 8th for the RWC • They finished 3rd in 2007 • The are the only team to have reached the semi finals and not hosted a Rugby World Cup • Their captain Felipe Contepomi is a surgeon and known as ‘Dr Phil’! This is him giving a speech at Dunedin’s civic welcome on Sunday 3 September 2011
