  2. 1. Transitional kindergarten A. SECC Transitional Kindergarten Philosophy Statement * B. TK Expectations/Requirements * Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is only for students who meet this specific age requirement. • A child is 4 years old and will turn 5 between September 2 and December 2 of the current year. • A child who turns 5 after December 2 is not eligible for enrollment for the current school year. • All immunization requirements of Kindergarten apply to TK students.

  3. 1. Transitional kindergarten – continued B. TK Expectations/Requirements - Continued 1. Local school board must approve the TK program. 2. An application must be completed and turned into the Office of Education for approval by April 30. 3. If TK students are placed with K students the classroom will be a multi-grade room and education code C17-132 applies. ~13 students or less – no aide time is necessary ~14-18 students – for every student over an enrollment of 13, one hour of aide time is necessary. ~18 students is maximum number for a TK-K multi-grade classroom

  5. 2. Kindergarten entrance policy The age requirement for a Kindergarten student is 5 on or before September 1. If a child’s birthday is after September 1 and before December 2, then the student is eligible for Transitional Kindergarten.

  6. 3. Acceleration: TK to 1st Can a TK student accelerate into 1st grade after completing the TK year? • On rare occasions a child may be eligible for acceleration into first grade. If a parent wants to accelerate their child who has excelled in TK the following process is to be followed: 1. An application for acceleration is turned into the Office of Education no later than April 30. 2. An assessment will be given to gauge the developmental age of the child to determine if acceleration is beneficial and recommended.

How to fund and financially support those courses of action that can result in a positive outcome for issue 1 in SECC.

Continuing education credits • $179 for a full year of unlimited courses • CE credit may be run through La Sierra University for an additional fee starting in August 2014 • Under this program, if courses are taken with university transcripts, 10 clock hours equals 1 quarter hour. If courses are taken without university transcripts, 25 clock hours will be needed to equal 1 quarter hour.
