Mental Health & Learning Disabilities Keep Well – Staff Project. To offer our domestic, catering and facilities staff the opportunity to attend a Keep Well review during work hours. We felt that many of these staff would meet the demographic in relation to deprivation.

Keep Well Project • 6 Health checks sessions delivered • 29 staff attended for a health check – 18 expressed interest in positive opportunity or in improving their general health and fitness levels 2 hoped for cholesterol/blood glucose/diabetes test 4 curious about BP and BMI (some had not visited GP for some time) 4 attended because they were specifically invited to do so
Keep Well Project • BMI – 12 BMI <25 17 BMI >25 • Tobacco - 8 current smokers (2 used e-cigarettes); some not ready to stop; used for stress relief; concern about gaining weight; wanted to lose weight first before considering giving up. • Alcohol – 6 had FAST score 3 or more; in general were aware of current guidelines and drank within the recommended limits; some tended to drink the weekly limit in 1 or 2 sessions. • Physical Activity – 14 took little or no exercise; 10 enjoyed light exercise; 5 exercised above recommended guideline • Referrals - (1) to Cash In Your Pocket Partnership; (2) GP practice BP check; (2) Assign score > 20; (3) Depression Screen trigger questions; (3) Nurse BP check; (2) Other • Signposting to services - All signposted to Healthpoint for various advice including Healthy Eating; Exercise
Keep Well Project Feedback nurse and staff • Excellent participation • Staff appreciated being allowed to attend during work time • Found it informative • A number of staff had made significant health behaviour changes • “Reassuring that what I was doing was correct”
Keep Well Project Summary • Provides staff with an opportunity to receive support and advice tailored to their needs • Provides staff with access to a range of local services e.g. Healthpoint; Keep Well Health Coaching Service; Cash In Your Pocket Partnership • Supports Healthy Working Lives • Would be good to extend the age range
