  3. Activity 4 fulfillment March 2012 – • Coordinating meetings between KRIMEL and KAEEC, • Forming of an expert group with an expert on heating and power lines being recruited, • Development by experts of a questionnaire form for heating lines analysis.

  4. Activity 4 fulfillment April 2012 - • Distribution and collection of questionnaire forms on heating lines within pilot territories, • Interviewing by telephone of contact and responsible persons in the pilot territories, • Meeting the chief engineer of “Southern Karelian electric power lines” company. • Making inquiry for the road network of the pilot regions, • Making inquiry from KostomukshaPrionegye grid company for power lines analysis.

  5. Activity 4 fulfillment May 2012 - • Analysis of the data received on heating lines, • Analysis of the data received on electric lines in Kalevala region, • Gathering information on road network, • Gathering information on electric lines in Kostomucksha.

  6. Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kalevala region • Population – appr. 9500. • Main settlements: Kalevala settlement, Borovoi settlement, Yushkozero settlement, Luusalmi settlement. • 856 apartment houses, 822 private houses. • Centralized heating supply for 25% of the residential area (32% of population). • Electric heating on 3% of residential area. • Wood heating on 72% of residential area. • Type of fuel used: firewood (12 thousand solid m3/year).

  7. Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kalevala region, Kalevala settlement Main heating consumer – Kalevala settlement: 5 boiler houses, Wearout of equipment – from 3% up to 75% (53% - average wearout). Total amount of boilers – 15. Total power output – 5,31 Gcal/hour. Total length of the heating lines – 7,8 km. Lines wearout – over 50%. No reserve for housing improvement.

  8. Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kalevala region,Borovoi settlement • Outdated boiler equipment, • High energy loss, • Big amounts of fuel (firewood) consumption, • Firewood supply problem. NovoyeYushkozero settlement • Firewood supply problem.

  9. Heating supply system – Kalevala region Recommendations: • For the region as a whole – to make usage perspective assessment of peat fuel pellets produced in the region, • For Kalevela settlement – consider two boilers combination, additional boilers installation. • For Borovoi settlement – boiler renovation is required. • For N. Yushkozero settlement – firewood supply improvement is required.

  10. Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kostomuksha • Centralized heating supply – 99% of consumers. • Type of fuel used – oil fuel. • Central boiler: - Total amount of boilers – 7. - Power output – 490 Gcal/h. - Repair of one boiler is required. • Total length of heating lines – 57 km. • Years of heating lines installation - 1981 – 1982.

  11. Heating lines - Kostomuksha Recommendations: • Growth of private sector construction requires decentralized heating supply solution, • Consider module boilers on local fuel construction.

  12. Research preliminary results Electric power lines – Kalevala region

  13. Research preliminary results Electric power lines – Kalevala region Power transmission line 110 kV • Total length of the line – 121 km. • Years of construction – 1982-1983. Power transmission line 10 kV • Total length of the line – 71 km. • Years of construction – 1984- 2002. Power transmission line – 0,4 kV • Total length of the line – 116 km. • Years of construction – 1984- 2011.

  14. Research preliminary results Electric power lines – Kalevala region Transformer substations: • Kalevala – 4 stations, 1983 – 1984. • Borovoi – 4 stations, 1981 – 1987. • Kepa – 2 stations, 2001. • Other substations (low output): 28 substations, 1984 – 2011. • Diesel generator in Voinitsa settlement: 100 kVt capacity, 2005.

  15. Electric power linesKalevala region Recommendations: • To ensure electric power supply in Kalevala settlement, interconnection with Pyaozersky lines is required, • Stable power supply in Voinitsa settlement is required.
