Imperialism

This overview explores the motivations behind American imperialism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Factors such as the need to increase exports, population growth, labor unrest, and the influence of Yellow Journalism shaped public perception and policy. Prominent figures like Josiah Strong advocated spreading American values under the guise of the "White Man's Burden." Key events, such as the overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani in Hawaii and the explosion of the USS Maine in Cuba, illustrate how media sensationalism fueled U.S. intervention in foreign conflicts, marking a pivotal shift towards empire.
