TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN 2012-13
During the Board of Education meeting on April 17, 2012, strong recommendations were made for California districts to proceed with the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program for the 2012-13 school year. Despite current laws affording eligible students the right to attend TK programs, the Governor’s Budget suggests eliminating funds and suspending the initiative. Districts can expect Average Daily Attendance (ADA) funding for students post their fifth birthday. Implementation costs are detailed, with a total of $310,000 required for curriculum and staffing. Approval to launch TK at Podesta Ranch and Lawrence Elementary Schools is recommended.
