  1. What is RADIANT ENERGY?

  2. Definition Radiant Energy- Energy that moves outward from a source. The sun is a major source of radiant energy. Radiant energy travels in waves.

  3. Visible vs. Invisible Radiant energy that appears as light is visible (can be seen) Other types of radiant energy are invisible (cannot be seen

  4. Visible Radiant Energy All colors of light travel to your eye in different wavelengths. Red travels in the longest waves Violet travels in the shortest waves. This is why your eyes are able to see different colors!!

  5. Invisible Radiant Energy • X-rays- travel among the fastest of • radiant energy waves. Special • machines help doctors use x-rays to • view the human skeleton. • Ultraviolet Rays come from the sun. • These can’t been seen but CAN be • felt (especially if you don’t use • sunblock!) • Infrared Rays are commonly used with tv remote controls. Waves travel from the remote when you push the button to sensors next to the tv

  6. Invisible Radiant Energy Microwaves Depending on their size, microwaves of radiant energy can be moved around to heat up food (in an oven or microwave). They can also be used to send signals and information across satellites, and for radar to check weather patterns.

  7. Radio Waves Radiowaves can be as long as a football field or as small as your hand. They are the reason we are able to watch television, listen to the radio, use cell phones, and use the internet!! There are satellites, on earth and in space, that pass along radio waves to different parts of the world.
