  1. Welcome to OUR class I will be your Math teacher this year. I am Ms. Iniguez, Ms. I, Miss, whatever you choose to call me I will answer to.

About Ms. Iniguez • I am Mexican American • Attended and graduated: St. Gerard Majella , Notre Dame Academy, Cal State Long Beach, and USC • At Long Beach I graduated Cum Laude (with honors), received my Bachelors degree with a major in Liberal Studies/Arts (to be a teacher), and received specializations in Bilingual Education and Math • At USC I received my Masters in Teaching with a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification • I hold a Multiple Subject Credential with a supplementary authorization in Math, a Single Subject Credential in Math, and a BCLAD • Have taught at Marina for11years: this will be my 12th • You can read more about me on the website • www.marinadelreyms.org

  3. Our class is based on RESPECT • We do many GROUP activities in here, and I choose who you work with and sit with. There are no comments or complaints. We all have RESPECT for each other: I for you and you for me. • Any form of disrespect will have consequences: TALLIES (Loss of DOJO points)!!!!, phone call, sent to another class, detention at nutrition or lunch, or in extreme cases sent to the Dean’s office

RULES • SHOW RESPECT • Please enter the room quickly and quietly • Please sharpen your pencils during the warm-up • Please keep to yourself, try not to distract other’s learning experience in my class • Please stay seated at all times, if you need something RAISE your hand • Please keep your comments to your self and try not to interrupt when I or someone else is talking • Please come ready to learn EVERYDAY

TALLIES • Tallies will be monitored for every 5 week report card and will result in the following. • 3= S in Cooperation • 6=U in Cooperation • 9= U in Cooperation + S in Work Habits • 12= U’s in BOTH Cooperation and Work Habits • Each tally earns a phone call home/DOJO message to the parent, then detention, and finally, extreme cases, the dean.

  6. Daily Routine LINE UP OUTSIDE!!!!! DO NOT BANG ON THE DOOR ! I WILL LET YOU IN WHEN I AM READY! • Come in through front door • Sit in your assigned seat • Sharpen pencils if necessary. You do NOT sharpen as I teach! • Start warm-up: homework will be checked as you complete your warm-up • When finished with warm-up copy down the night’s homework in your agenda • Start reading the section we are learning today • Go over warm-up • Lecture/Notes • Practice/Activity • Review what was learned (reflection) • Start Homework • I dismiss you NOT the bell • Exit through front door We NEVER use the back door!

Homework • Checked Monday-Thrusday for DOJO points and Friday for points on our weekly Notebook Checks • Monday-Thursday will result in a phone call home if missing to remind you to have it done by Friday for the NB Check • Each Homework assignment is worth 10 points (Full or NO Credit • Homework is completed in PENCIL • NO COPYING HOMEWORK (if caught, ALL involved will receive a 0) • Check the school website if absent www.marinadelreyms.org • Email me if there are any questions or DOJO me • marissa.iniguez@lausd.net

DOJO Points “Bank Account” • 15points = Bathroom pass • 40 points = Homework pass I have the right to say NO to anything • Homework Passes are also given to 100% quiz (50 points) or 100% test scores (100 points) so pay attention , do your Homework, and STUDY!!!!! • The tests and quizzes WILL have questions from previous material so review EVERYTHING

  10. Supplies: • PENCILS!!!!! You need lots of pencils. • Eraser • Sharpener to keep at your desk • Pens: Black, Blue, Purple,Green, and Red (These are the colors I use for notes and I would like you to copy the notes as I write them) • Glue • Scissors • Ruler • Index Cards for vocabulary • Calculator • Graph Paper Notebook exclusively for this class • Whiteboard Marker

  11. For this class you must have a Graph Paper NOTEBOOK!!!!! • We will take notes everyday!!!! You are to use the notes to help you with your homework! • Your notes should always have a heading, with your name, date, and topic (it makes it easier for our notebook checks). No Heading, No Credit!!!! • Please use the same colors I use on the overhead • Notes should be taken in pen BUT Homework MUST be done in PENCIL ONLY!!!!

  13. FRIDAY • Friday’s are special days. Formal Assessment day!!!!! We will have a Quiz/Project EVERY Friday until we reach the end of the chapter. • The quizzes are on what we learned that week, but you will also apply old material. • I will check the notebooks! And you will have an assignment to complete quietly so no one is distracted during testing.

Group work: Why you are seated in groups of 4 • Leader Facilitator • Helps everyone get started • Who wants to read? • Does anyone know how to get started? • Makes sure everyone understands what to do • What does the first question mean? • Do we all agree? • Helps everyone to get started • Does anyone know how to get started? • Task Manager • Keeps the team focused • What does the next question say • Keeps the team discussing MATH • Ok, let’s get back to work • Let’s keep working • Monitors if anyone is not talking about MATH • Helps the team articulate reasons for the Math statements made • Explains how you know that • Can you Prove that • Tell me why • Recorder/Reporter • Shares the team’s results to the class • How should we show our answer to the class • What does each person want to explain in the presentation • Meets with teach for huddles • Makes sure that each team member understand what information he/she needs to record personally (EVERYONE does the WORK) • Does everyone understand what to write down? • Materials Manager • Gets the necessary supplies • What supplies do we need?? • Makes sure the team cleans up • Seeks input/answers from each person in the group and if the answer is still unclear, asks the teacher (only person to ask for clarification from the teacher) • Does anyone have an idea? • Who can answer that question? • Should I call the teacher?
