  16. Operation Unified ResponseHaiti Earthquake Relief Initial inquiries and discussion began - ~7 PM on 13 Jan - Coordinated directly with USSOUTHCOM, Broadcasting Board of Governors and Voice Of America for programming Aircraft departed PA on Verbal Order - 11:00 AM 15 Jan Deployment Order Received - 2:44 PM 15 Jan 1st Mission flown from San Juan, PR - 11:13 AM 16 Jan Aircraft provided 5 hours broadcasting to Haiti Initial Feedback: This is the fastest crisis broadcasting response I have seen in 25 years of involvement in international broadcasting. We all hope and trust we can make a difference for the Haitian people. (Bruce Sherman, Director, Strategic Planning and Research ,Broadcasting Board of Governors ) At 161330JAN10, MIST Haiti called SOCSOUTH and reported that the Commando Solo radio broadcasts were loud and clear in Port au Prince. MIST Haiti confirmed all of the 4 primary frequencies were broadcasting: 92.9 FM, 93.3 FM, 104.1 FM and 105.3 FM. Just got the official report from Haiti that reception is excellent and the PSAs are being heard from Commando Solo. Native Haitians in the Public Affairs office in the embassy are receiving it loud and clear. (MAJ Daniel Castro, USSOUTHCOM Security & Intelligence Directorate)

This, in my view, was a model of inter-agency cooperation and coordinated communication that allowed all of us to fulfill our separate and shared missions. We will seek to highlight the experience as a case study within the USG… • Bruce Sherman, Director for Strategy and Research, Broadcasting Board of Governors • Judging by our listeners comments, the support provided by Commando Solo made it easier for many people in Haiti to tune in to VOA Creole broadcasts, which brought them much-needed news and information. Commando Solo made a difference. Indeed, it was a real pleasure working with you.
