Writing Partnership

This initiative focuses on advancing student writing and critical thinking through a collaborative partnership among educators from Pre-K to university levels. Led by Dr. Nancy Grasmick and Dr. Clare Kruft, the project unfolds over three phases: developing a writing wiki, conducting action research to enhance student skills, and publishing resources for wider use. Key strategies include using text-based evidence in writing and fostering argumentation skills among third graders. The project aims to create impactful writing instruction accessible to educators statewide.

  4. Supporting Common Core…Text-Based Evidence in Written Responses

  5. Action Research Course After literature reviews and reading strategy ideas on the Writing Partnership wiki, the third-grade team of teacher-researchers discuss possible root causes and creative interventions for encouraging their young students to deepen their support for their written ideas.

  6. Beginning Opinions as Argumentation • Helping third graders understand how using text-based evidence strengthens their arguments for a topic.

  7. Baseline Data… • Capturing baseline information for a young ESOL student

  8. Pre-Kindergarten Budding Writer! The next day after the baseline discussion of the writing interest survey, Tanzeela creates her written product.

  9. Next Steps…. Revise the wiki to make it accessible as a source of great writing instruction for wider access Present to the Academic Team leaders in BCPS to determine possibility for expansion Offer other PBC opportunities to other Maryland counties through Towson University
