  2. The most important program on any computer is the Operating System or OS.

  3. Without the operating system your computer would be useless.

  4. Operating System make the computers user friendly

  5. DOS or Disk-based Operating System is stored on a computer’s hard drive and is booted to RAM whenever the computer is turned on.

  6. RAM chips will remember what you tell them and can even change to remember new information, but when the computer is turned off,

  7. RAM forgets everything you told it. That’s why you save all your documents!

  8. The GUI (Graphical User Interface) uses graphics or pictures to help the user navigate within the computer.

  9. These are the four basic interfaces… interface to the underlying hardware interface to application programs interface to the user interface to the system manager
